Wednesday, July 29, 2009 Shipping Announcements

by Rainier on July 29, 2009 @ 8:04 a.m. PDT

Another day, another batch of games shipped to stores. Instead of giving them all their own posts, we grouped them, and so far there are announcements for:

Marvel VS. Capcom 2 (X360)

Marvel VS. Capcom 2 features the biggest roster of challengers to ever square off in a Capcom fighting game, a total of 56 combined brawlers from both the Capcom and Marvel universes. From the world of Capcom comes characters such as Ryu from the Street Fighter® series, Jill Valentine from the Resident Evil games and unofficial company mascot Mega Man®. Marvel is represented by some of its biggest names, including the Invincible Iron Man, Captain America, the Sentinel of Liberty, and War Machine, Weapon of S.H.I.E.L.D. Players can mix and match from both worlds in order to create their own ideal three man/woman/robot/monster team-up.

Due to the amazing combination of Marvel and Capcom characters and the game’s celebrated fighting system and graphics, Marvel VS. Capcom 2 has been a hotly sought-after title on the game collector’s circuit. Previously owned copies for older game consoles have been demanding more than $100 in auctions and at specialty video game outlets. Now players who have been desperately searching out used copies of the game will be able to go hands-on and play online with the same great online experience from Super Street Fighter® II Turbo HD Remix. Additionally, Capcom has added an optional advanced visual filter that improves the overall appearance of the game and added online modes, including Ranked Matches and the popular Player “Quarter” Match, that allows up to four people to watch and chat while two others are battling it out.

Marvel VS. Capcom 2 is available for 1200 Microsoft Points. Marvel VS. Capcom 2 will also be available on August 13 via PlayStation Network for $14.99.

Gears of War 2: Dark Corners (X360)

Gears of War 2: Dark Corners is the largest expansion for “Gears of War 2” yet, and includes seven new multiplayer maps, 13 new Achievements worth 325 additional Gamerscore and the new campaign chapter, “Road to Ruin.”

The seven new multiplayer maps in the “Dark Corners” Game Add-on are:

  • Allfathers Garden: Honor the sacred grounds of the Coalition founders in this explosive map, where a host of powerful weapons catalyze fast and furious action at this COG landmark.
  • Memorial: This hard battleground is set in the Memorial of the Eternal Flame, paying tribute to soldiers who have fallen on the battlefield. Players will fight to control the Boomshot, putting their flank formation and evasive skills to the test.
  • Sanctuary: Once a peaceful ground for reflection and remembrance, all that remains of this Sanctuary is the chill of death. Make your way through the tight paths and blind corners of the Locust-damaged temple corridors as you seek the arsenal of powerful weapons hidden within.
  • War Machine: In the abandoned train station that once served as a hub for travel, players will need to master the Longshot, Mulcher and Boomshot weapons to advance the fight while evading fire from the platforms above.
  • Highway: Take the fight deep into the Locust Hollow in the complex passages of this underground highway system brimming with enemy vermin. Stick together, separate the enemy and have an exit strategy ready or it’ll be a one-way trip.
  • Way Station Locust way stations are filled with fallen COG soldiers trapped somewhere between death and “processing.” Tread lightly and practice patience as it’s better to sacrifice firepower for stealth while navigating this minefield of hidden grenades.
  • Nowhere: Set in the middle of what was once a destination for weary desert travelers, the land is now barren and devoid of life. Pick off your enemies with the Longshot sniper rifle before a sandstorm blows in to obscure vision and intensify the firefight.

If you’ve missed previous Game Add-ons for “Gears of War 2,” the “All Fronts Collection” is a great value as it includes the previously released “Flashback,” “Combustible” and “Snowblind” Map Packs in addition to the new “Dark Corners” content. In all, “Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection” contains 19 diverse multiplayer maps in which you and your friends can repel the Locust Horde as a team or cross chainsaws in thrilling competitive multiplayer matches, all while racking up experience points to climb in rank.
