by Rainier on Aug. 10, 2009 @ 6:40 a.m. PDT

Another day, another batch of games shipped to stores. Instead of giving them all their own posts, we grouped them, and so far there are announcements for:

Fossil Fighters (NDS)

Fossil Fighters invites players to enter a world in which fearsome creatures are hidden as fossils for players to collect, using the unique touch-screen controls of Nintendo DS. Players can clean, collect and battle their discoveries. The game features more than 100 dinosaur-like creatures called Vivosaurs, each of which can be revived and deployed in strategic turn-based battles. With fun tactical elements, vast environments to explore and a lighthearted storyline and characters, Fossil Fighters allows players to control and customize a team of Vivosaurs as they battle their way through the mysterious Vivosaur Island. Players can also connect over local wireless with friends to battle customized teams of Vivosaurs or trade their fossils.

“Dinosaurs are a source of endless fascination for the young and the young at heart,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Combining customization and social play, Fossil Fighters brings together the best elements of hand-held gaming for players of all ages.”

Using the Nintendo DS stylus and touch screen, players can chip and drill away at each fossil they find. They can even blow into the Nintendo DS microphone to clear away dust. Once a fossil head is cleaned, the Vivosaur can be revived and used in battle. Other fossilized body parts can also be found and cleaned to imbue each Vivosaur with special powers. Players can create custom teams of three Vivosaurs, strategically selecting the best trio for each encounter.

Hearts of Iron III (PC)

Featuring in-depth simulations of World War II battles, veteran soldiers and new recruits alike will find much to satisfy their appetite for strategic planning in Hearts of Iron III. Set in the wartime period of 1936-1948, Hearts of Iron III retains the popular core gameplay of previous installments in the series, and adds brand new features such as a huge game map with more than 14,000 land and sea provinces.

Battle it out and take the reins of larger superpowers such as Russia or the United States, or build up smaller nations such as Costa Rica. Hearts of Iron III enables strategy fans to choose the outcome of one of the grandest wars of all time. The power, responsibility and decision-making process of a nation at war all lies within your hands.

Hearts of Iron III is available for purchase in US retail stores and all major digital-distribution channels.

The Hearts of Iron series has become renowned for being the biggest, most detailed and complete strategic game series on World War 2 ever made. Hearts of Iron 3 will follow that tradition closely while focusing on satisfying veteran players through a multitude of brand new features and systems, including a huge map with more than 14,000 land and sea provinces.

Killing Floor (PC) - Europe Only

Killing Floor is a Co-op Survival Horror FPS taking place in the devastated cities and countryside of England, after a series of cloning experiments for the military goes horribly wrong. You and your friends are members of the military and police, dropped into these locations with a simple mission: survive long enough to cleanse the area of the failed experiments. The only problem is, these “experiments” aren’t waiting to be taken out – they’re coming for YOU!

Iceberg Interactive CEO Erik Schreuder said: “With the game set in London and typical English countryside locations, as well as featuring refreshingly real English voice overs for the characters, Killing Floor is a shockingly good alternative for the Hollywood style zombie games that have dominated the market so far. Add the very friendly pricing to the mix and this should be the zombie shooter of choice for every Brit.”

  • Persistent Perks system, allowing players to convert their in-game achievements into permanent improvements to their character’s skills and abilities
