The popularity of darts has never been higher with major celebrities attending the major darting events, which is now seen as one of “The” nights out. Now nobody has to miss out with your very own darts tournaments at home with family and friends.

PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour debuts for the first time on PS3 with a whole host of new features to be announced shortly for all versions of the game.

The new game builds on the successes of its predecessors, with updated graphics, character models, and an optimised control system. PDC World Championship Darts Pro Tour provides fluid, accurate and simple throwing dynamics, getting players closer to the action than ever before.

The latest iteration in the franchise has evolved to support the latest developments in motion control gaming and will feature full PlayStation Move motion controller and Wii Motion+ support, in addition to standard PS3 and Xbox 360 control pads – allowing more players more ways of joining the game. Further establishing its heritage as the definitive darts game for fans of the sport, PDC World Championship Darts Pro Tour’s in-depth career mode will also support the latest tournaments, including the Grand Slam of Darts, a new fixture in the PDC events calendar. Player View puts you at The Oche in the eyes of a Pro, with gamers being able to control player celebrations. Plus the atmosphere will be further enhanced with an all-new commentary from TV’s ‘Voice of Darts’ Sid Waddell and John Gwynne; top level match referees, Bruce Spendley and Russ Bray; and Master of Ceremonies, John McDonald.

Eric Miller, Associate Producer from the game’s developer Redoubt, takes you behind-the-scenes on how playing the game with PlayStation Move and Wii MotionPlus offers a vastly richer and more realistic experience than a standard control pad:

“Two of the new technical additions we have in PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour is support for the PlayStation Move on PlayStation 3 and Wii MotionPlus support on the Nintendo Wii. The use of both these controllers has allowed us to add exciting additional motion based features, that have never been seen before in a PDC Darts game.

“Both the PlayStation Move and Wii MotionPlus allow us to more accurately capture the player’s gesture movement than we could before. The primary benefit this gives us as developers (beyond a more accurate way of measuring your throw) is that we can now map the controlled player’s hand and arm on screen to accurately reflect the way the respective motion controller is being held and the position of your own arm. Together this combines to create much more of a connection between what the player is physically doing, and what is represented on screen allowing you to ‘feel’ the game by both ‘doing’ and ‘seeing’.

“A couple of unique features to the MotionPlus are the ability to affect the spin and land angle of the dart, through the throwing gesture. Adding spin to the dart results in a small bonus the accuracy, while affecting the land angle is important for the reason described below.

“Professional darts players have a preferred land angle to their dart, which allows them to plan their shots to the board to allow the maximum possible room on the board for that third dart into the Treble Twenty. As there is not much room, and darts can collide with and bounce off of other darts: this is incredibly important to them. In PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour the angle of your Wii MotionPlus controller at the moment of release when you throw your dart, can influence the ‘land angle’ of your dart to the board and therefore the amount of room you have left for subsequent shots. This adds a whole level of realism to the game that has never been present before, and greatly adds to the experience and simulation.

“Regardless of the platform or accessory used, PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour is by far the best iteration in the franchise to date and we hope that you enjoy playing the game as much as we have enjoyed making it!”

O-Games has also confirmed online 1-on-1 matches for Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers, as well as PDC World Championship Darts Pro Tour featuring a raft of downloadable content support on Xbox Live and PSN: including new players, events and darting accessories.
