'Shot Online' Adds PGA Players To Its Lineup

by Rainier on Feb. 19, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST

Shot Online combines the social aspects of an MMO role-playing game with the physics and play mechanics of a serious golf simulator, all in full 3D.

Shot Online is the world's first full 3D PC-online massively multiplayer golf game to combine elements of true golf simulation and role playing together in one. Incorporating elements of traditional role-playing enhanced by a proprietary physics engine for golf ball dynamics and interaction with eight challenging, varied golf courses, Shot-Online is a true sports role-playing game (RPG) that allows players to experience realistic golf simulation (geographical, physical, motional, and environmental factors such as wind, weather, and temperature), full 3D courses and characters, and a variety of camera views that make playing the game a truly immersive experience.

Three of the top professional golfers in the world - Y.E. Yang, Anthony Kim and Camilo Villegas- are now available as playable characters in its golf simulation game, Shot Online. Each of the high-ranked PGA TOUR player's names and likenesses, including each player's sponsors, are now available for purchase in-game. In addition to the new playable characters, Shot Online will be launching a brand new website in conjunction with the avatar system.

Shot Online features the real-life likenesses of each of the players including each golfer's individual movements. The characters of Villegas, Kim and Yang have much higher capabilities and growth speed than existing characters in the game and also sport their sponsored real life gear such as TaylorMade, Cobra, CVS and more. Characters are open for all players of any skill level and will cost $19.50 per character (for 30 days) or $29.50 for 90 days to obtain in the game's item shop. As a special promotion, all players will get a free 1 day ticket to test the player of their choice.

"These three golfers are some of the most talented players in golf today and we couldn't be happier that they are now a part of Shot Online," said David Chang, EVP of Marketing and Business Development for GamesCampus. "GamesCampus is committed to giving golf enthusiasts a unique and enjoyable way to play their favorite sport, and we think these new pro players will enhance their total experience."

Y.E. Yang, ranked 29th in the world, stunned the golf world last August when he out-dueled Tiger Woods to win the PGA Championship, becoming the first male Korean golfer to win one of golf's four majors in the process. He earned two victories in 2009, and was also the first golfer to overtake Woods in a major championship in which the world's number one golfer had the lead going into the final round.

At only 24, Anthony Kim is one of golf's brightest, and most popular, young stars. Kim turned professional in 2006 and finished second in his PGA tournament debut at the Valero Texas Open. In 2008, he enjoyed a breakout season, earning his first Tour victory at the Wachovia Championship, following it up with a win at the AT&T National two months later, and playing an integral role as the U.S. team brought the Ryder Cup back home after three consecutive losses. With a fearless personality on the course, and a strong, well-rounded game, Anthony Kim promises to be a 'major' force in golf for many years.

Camilo Villegas of Colombia is another of golf's most popular young superstars, gaining 'rockstar' status around the world on the PGA and European Tours. Known for his movie star looks, a superhuman fitness level and a powerful, all-around game, Villegas won the final two FedExCup tournaments in 2008 to finish second in the standings and earn 7th place in the Official World Golf Rankings. His unorthodox putting routine that sees him crouch extended and low to the ground to read his putts has earned Villegas the nickname "Spiderman".

"It's exciting to be portrayed as a playable character in a really fun gaming experience for golfers and golf fans," said Anthony Kim. "I think it's terrific that Shot Online gamers will be able to experience the same kind of world class golf excitement that we do!"
