The timing for the release coincides with the key final weeks of the hit TV show of the same name. Now in its fifth series Dancing on Ice has firmly established itself as one of the most successful prime time TV shows of recent years regularly reaching an audience in excess of 9 million viewers in the UK.
The video game successfully captures the excitement, drama and challenge of the show with a highly interactive and intuitive control system. By creating your own character, selecting which real-life professional skater will be your partner, undertaking the strict training regimes and learning the increasingly testing “required elements” the player really feels like they are immersed in the show for real.
As part of this realism the player will also come under the scrutiny of both the “ice panel” of judges and the viewers vote to determine who will be required to “skate-off” to stay in the competition.
James Chubb, Licensing Manager for ITV STUDIOS Global Entertainment commented “The Dancing on Ice brand is one of the most valuable on British TV. Our audience is extremely passionate and we believe that they will love the opportunity to put themselves on the ice. We are delighted that such a fun and authentic video game has been developed and this is another superb example of how we’re providing our audience with high quality and engaging brand extensions.”
Sam Collins, Head of Sales at Ghostlight said “There is a huge overlap between the demographic profile of the Nintendo Wii and DS consoles and the Dancing on Ice TV audience. We are looking forward to seeing the fans of the show play the game and live the dream. We are working closely with ITV and other media partners to ensure that Dancing on Ice the video game achieves its potential as one of the best selling family games of 2010”.
