'LEGO Universe' Gets Trading Card Game Spin-Off

by Rainier on July 28, 2010 @ 8:41 a.m. PDT

LEGO Universe is a full-featured MMOG complete with character advancement, expansive social and community features, and will provide a child-safe alternative to other MMOGs on the market. As a player, you'll be able to customize your mini-figs and interact in the universe as any character you choose, providing unique opportunities for players to expand and explore with their creations.

LEGO Universe is a family-friendly online game, appropriate for players aged eight and above, centered around an epic battle between creativity and chaos. The LEGO brick lies at the center of the experience, and several levels of building are available, from simple gameplay-oriented challenges all the way up to sophisticated brick-by-brick design. With a focus on creativity and building, LEGO Universe invites players to flex their imaginations with the iconic brick in a vibrant online world.

The LEGO Group has entered into an agreement with Dire Wolf Digital to create a new trading card game, scheduled for 2011, based on the upcoming LEGO MMOG. The agreement grants a license to produce physical TCG products as well as digital products for PC, Mac and mobile devices.

“We’re obviously very excited about LEGO Universe, and adding a TCG provides additional content, as well as a brand new customizable play experience,” said Mark William Hansen, Senior Director, LEGO Universe. “The Dire Wolf team are experts in this space, and their passion for excellence made them a natural choice for this project.”

Dire Wolf Digital is a team of industry veterans with a strong track record of success in the digital collectibles space. “Creating a game with the LEGO Group and NetDevil is an exciting opportunity, allowing us to work with a beloved brand and great business partners,” said Scott Martins, president of Dire Wolf Digital. “The creativity and ‘build anything’ spirit of the brand and LEGO Universe fit perfectly with trading card games, where players are limited only by their imaginations.”
