Wednesday, September 8, 2010 Shipping Announcements

by Rainier on Sept. 8, 2010 @ 9:15 a.m. PDT

Another day, another batch of games shipped to stores. Instead of giving them all their own posts, we grouped them, and so far there are announcements for:

We will update this throughout the day when new announcements become available. Read more for details ...

Amnesia: The Dark Descent (PC)

Amnesia: The Dark Descent represents the culmination of the three years of hard work and we are very proud of the final result. We believe it to be a huge improvement over our previous work, the Penumbra series.

One of our goals with Amnesia: The Dark Descent has been "availability", meaning that the game should be as available as possible for those that are interested in playing it. Because of this, the game is having a simultaneous launch on Windows, Mac and Linux. It also comes with four translations in addition to the original English version, is DRM free and available from most major online retailers in addition to our own online store. Finally, the game itself has also received our utmost attention in areas that affect the ease of use and interaction with the game world.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a first person horror game with a focus on immersion. It is a game where atmosphere and story comes first. We hope that the game will be a breeze of fresh air, in a genre otherwise populated by "one-man-army action hero" sagas. In Amnesia you are almost completely defenseless, something we believe not only makes the game a lot scarier, but also gives a vastly different experience.

Enter an interactive nightmare where reality is a fragile concept.

Do you have what it takes to survive?

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is available at the official website and most major online retailers for $20

System requirements:

  • Windows XP/Vista/7, OS X 10.5.8/10.6.4 or Linux distribution released in 2010.
  • NVIDIA GeForce 6 / ATI Radeon HD.
  • 2.0 Ghz CPU.
  • 2 GB RAM.
  • 2.5 GB Free hard disk space.

Transformers: War for Cybertron Map and Characters Pack 2 (PS3/X360)

Based on Hasbro's iconic Transformers brand, the downloadable content pack will include two new, distinct playable Transformers characters and five all-new maps for online multiplayer game modes.

The new playable Transformers characters joining the roster will include Zeta Prime and Dead End. Players will have access to both characters in the game's heart-pounding, four-player co-op Escalation mode, and will be able to select their chassis to create their own Transformers character in the traditional competitive multiplayer modes.

In addition, five brand new multiplayer maps will extend the diverse array of battlefields on which players can wage war with their friends.

  • Two new Escalation mode maps include:
    • Pulse is an Autobot map and allows players to take a journey inside the Decepticon giant Trypticon, challenging fans to explore his twisted interior corridors to overload the central power core located within.
    • Static is a Decepticon map that thrusts players into a bevy of multi-level rooms riddled with environmental traps that can be used for their advantage.
  • Three new competitive multiplayer maps include:
    • Horizon is a picturesque statuary overlooking the war-torn Autobot home city of Iacon, complete with wide open courtyards and tight spaces for close quarters combat.
    • Sector is an old maintenance facility used by the Decepticons during the legendary war and allows for open vehicle navigation, especially dive-bombing jets and those with long range weapons.
    • Metropolis is set high above the clouds and drops players straight into the bombed out ruins of a high rise Iacon city building. Liquid energon drips from broken pipes and sparking electricity crackles from severed wires as it was once served as a fierce central battleground on Cybertron.

The Transformers: War for Cybertron Map and Characters Pack 2 is currently available on Xbox Live Marketplace for 800 Microsoft Points and in the PlayStation Store for $9.99.

Dragon Age: Origins- "Witch Hunt" DLC (PS3/X360/PC)

Seeking to confirm her presence and confront her about her mysterious disappearance, players will head into the forest to tie up this last loose end once and for all. Players can either import their characters from Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age: Origins -- Awakening or create a new, high-level hero.

"Fans are asking for more characters, more adventures and that is what we're delivering. Morrigan and Liara are two of the most beloved characters in their respective franchises and completing these new journeys will add to the story and action of both games."

The Dragon Age: Origins DLC pack, "Witch Hunt" ($6.99 on PlayStation Network, 560 Microsoft points on the Xbox 360, 560 BioWare Points on PC) features a story that reconnects players with one of the series' original larger-than-life heroes, Morrigan.

Liara enlists the help of Commander Shepard and his crew, chasing clues from the luxurious heights of Illium to the depths of the Shadow Broker's own secret lair. The new DLC pack adds the Shadow Broker intel center, new research, as well as the chance to continue a relationship with Liara from the original Mass Effect.

"‘Lair of the Shadow Broker' represent our commitment to keeping the game worlds alive with high quality content, even post-launch," said BioWare Edmonton General Manager Aaryn Flynn. "Fans are asking for more characters, more adventures and that is what we're delivering. Morrigan and Liara are two of the most beloved characters in their respective franchises and completing these new journeys will add to the story and action of both games."
