Mythos is an online, action role-playing game that is free to download and free to play. Set in the land of Uld – a fantasy world arising from the ashes of an epoch-long war of darkness – players assume the roles of fantasy heroes as they explore, adventure, and quest through entirely randomized dungeons and environments. With an elegant point-and-click interface and an accessible "isometric" perspective, Mythos is poised to have near-universal appeal. The game allows thousands of players to interact within the same world while using mostly "instanced" dungeons to create unique gaming experiences suited for both solo and group-minded players.

As players journey into Mythos' ever-expanding universe, they select one of four races (Human, Satyr, Gremlin, or Cyclops) and opt to play as a particular character class using a huge variety of skills and items. Through heroic quests players search for gold, gems, armor, and weapons, while unlocking the secrets of Uld. Mythos presents a constantly expanding, continuously updated world where something new lurks around every corner.

Frogster issued the following statement:

Mythos enjoyed great popularity with the launch in April and the numerous registered users ensured a good start. The desired long-term success unfortunately did not follow. Under these circumstances, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the operation of Mythos.

For this reason, we will shut down the game servers and cease operation on 27/10/2011 at 12:00 CEST (11am UK).

We are very sorry to have to forward this message because the Mythos community was very lively.

Here’s a rundown of what’s going to be happening over the next few days:

1. We want to make the last few days of Mythos as pleasurable as possible so try to send out all missing quest items by in-game messages! Just let us know what you’re missing here, by giving us the quest item name here. We’ll then check if it’s feasible to send these items, if it is, we’ll set up a separate thread for all the requests.
2. Effective immediately, it is no longer possible to buy Bones!
3. Effective immediately, all servers have the maximum XP and Luck buffs!
4. Over the next few days our community managers will be coming to the servers for the last time to help you fight the last monster invasion and supply you with powerful items! There’ll be monsters-a-plenty and set-items, cash shop items and skill gems galore!
   1. The first event takes place on Thursday 20/10/2011 from 14:00 CEST (1pm UK).
   2. The final event, the Farewell Party, takes place on Wednesday 26/10/2011 from 16:00 CEST (3pm UK), when we can all have one last party together.
   3. There will be a few CMs loitering about on the servers between events too.
5. On 27/10/2011 at 12:00 CEST (11am UK) we will be shutting down all game servers.
6. On 28/10/2011 at 12:00 CEST (11am UK) we will be closing all language forums.

As a way of saying thanks for your loyalty, we’d also like to give out Runes of Magic vouchers to all the users who have been active in the past 3 months (only accounts registered prior to this announcement will be considered).

The vouchers may be redeemable for mounts, Diamonds – or both! We’ll also be giving away some beta keys for our new title Eligium.

Those of you who purchased a Mythos box will be receiving a Runes of Magic bundle with the same value as the box.

Vouchers and/or bundles will be sent to you via email after the servers have been shut down.
