Rockstar And Sony Issue Joint Statement On 'L.A. Noire' (ALL) And v3.61 Firmware

by Rainier on May 19, 2011 @ 12:59 p.m. PDT

At the heart of PS3 is the Cell Broadband Engine, one of the most advanced computer processors in the world, that enables massive floating point calculation, and Blu-ray Disc (BD) drive, providing a High Definition (1080p) next-generation gaming and movie experience in the home, as well as up to 50 GB of data capacity.

Yesterday we reported that a page on Rockstar's support site dedicated to PS3 overheating issues mysteriously disappeared. The Q&A in question flat-out blamed the security checks in the new v3.61 firmware for the problem, saying it had already received multiple complaints. Shortly thereafter, the page was pulled, and now both Rockstar and Sony have issued a joint statement stating the exact opposite.

Rockstar and Sony issued the following statement:

We have received a very small number of customer support questions about PS3’s overheating or shutting down while playing L.A. Noire.  At this time, Rockstar Games and Sony can confirm that neither L.A. Noire or firmware update 3.61 are causing the PS3 hardware to overheat.   We are both committed to working hard to find solutions to this and any issues that may arise.   If you are experiencing any issues with L.A. Noire or your PS3 hardware, please contact technical support using any of the means provided below:
