'MotorStorm: Apocalypse' (PS3) Update Lets You Create And Share!

by Rainier on Aug. 12, 2011 @ 9:00 a.m. PDT

After ripping up Monument Valley, obliterating everything in its path on The Island and surviving the chilling temperatures of the Arctic, MotorStorm is back - and this time it hits The City...abandoned after being hit by a tremor.

If you thought you knew street racing, think again – prepare for multi-vehicle action across the tops of unstable skyscrapers, through ravaged buildings, into darkened subways and over twisting bridges while jaw-dropping quakes tear the city apart in real time. Join us for the ultimate party ... at the end of the world.

It’s no longer just about winning. It’s about a fight for survival. The abandoned metropolis is the perfect playground for a genre-thrashing, all-new MotorStorm action racing festival. Pick your vehicle from one of 13 classes, including supercars, muscle cars, superbikes, and even choppers, then choose one of 40 unique races while looters and military contractors fight for what is left of the city. No track is ever the same as you endure hundreds of explosive real-time dynamic events in the most unpredictable and spectacular races of your life.

In single player mode, experience a unique story of three characters – each of whom offers a different difficulty level – as they experience the insane urban festival from unique perspectives, and finally get to learn more about the crazy crew behind each MotorStorm festival. If you want to show off your reckless driving skills, you can race against 4 of your friends in split-screen or race against 16 players online; or combine the two. The Game Mode Creator lets you create, share and play totally new game experiences from scratch, and you can customize your vehicle in game or download new vehicles, parts and graphics from PlayStation Store via PlayStation Network and share designs with friends around the world. There are so many combinations that each player could own a unique vehicle to suit their racing style.

SCEA has rolled out a new update, which will empower you to create, share and get much more out of your action racing experience than ever before.

Design Your Own Game Modes
The Mode Editor allows you to create your own fun game modes within the MotorStorm template and then play them straight away with other players (online and offline).

The possibilities are vast: Tweak the standard Race mode so that vehicle attacks are disabled…or set-up a 5 round Eliminator mode, on mirrored tracks, for 15 Monster Trucks and 1 Buggy, with moon gravity, infinite boost and no brakes…or do something completely unexpected – we can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Share Your Customised Vehicles
Customise and share your proudest vehicle designs with your friends via the official website, and download any that you like the look of from the website to apply to any of the vehicles in your collection – they automatically work across all vehicle types.

Sharing your personalised vehicles is simple: upload them from MotorStorm Apocalypse to your personal Profile area on motorstorm.com and other players can view them immediately.

Downloading shared vehicles from other players is just as easy: find one you like the look of on the official website, sign in with your PSN Online ID and download it – it will be waiting for you when you next go into Customisation in the game!

PlayStation Move controllers and certain PS3 steering wheels are now fully supported in MotorStorm Apocalypse (including customisable configurability options), so you can get even closer to the racing action with a more tactile and realistic control set-up. Supported steering wheels include: Logitech G25, Logitech G27, Logitech Driving Force GT and Logitech Driving Force Pro.

Enjoy Further Improvements to Online Play
In response to continued feedback from MotorStorm players, the update also includes additions and improvements such as; new racer ‘clan tags’, changes to gambling (bets are now won when a rival is disconnected or disqualified), and changes to lobby privacy (so that private rooms can only be joined by invitation).

Key Features:

  • Sixteen player online multiplayer.
  • Four player split-screen.
  • Combinations of the two. Play with three friends in the living room against 12 more online.
  • Massive vehicle customization. Change vinyls, vehicle parts, vehicle shapes and more. Upload them to the community site and share them with others. They automatically work on all vehicle types, and include your PSN ID.
  • Vehicle perks. Modify your handling, boosting and offensive abilities as you unlock new perks.
  • A wealth of rankings to progress through online with associated rewards and recognition.
  • Stacks of online rewards to earn and persistent progress giving the most determined and successful racers the status and recognition they deserve.

  • A Game Mode Creator. From a completely blank canvas you can design your own game rules and victory conditions, play them online, and incorporate them into tournaments.
