Alan Wake's American Nightmare (PC)

Alan Wake's American Nightmare is a stand-alone action adventure that is a twisted, horrifying alternate reality where fiction has become real. Wake leaps into action and pursues his evil doppelganger, Mr. Scratch, across the Arizona mesa toward the town of Night Springs. Scratch, a serial killer, has his evil plans set on Wake's wife, Alice. Wake must control reality and unravel the secret to Scratch's demise while using the power of light to put an end to the darkness.

The PC release has been revamped with high-resolution graphics, texture resolutions and graphical options, along with enhanced features including the Nightmare difficulty mode, customizable controls, stereoscopic 3-D and multiscreen support. The PC version also includes the "Fight till Dawn" arcade mode. Players are tasked with surviving a full night of brutal onslaughts while racking up their score. With new enemies to battle, Wake has plenty of deadly options in his arsenal: old stalwarts like the flare gun, new favorites like the nail gun and old-school Remedy favorites like the Uzi. Surviving until dawn is only the beginning, as online leaderboards pit friends head-to-head to crown the real champion of light.

Alan Wake's American Nightmare is available for download on Steam and GOG for $14.99.

Dragon's Dogma (PS3/X360)

Players challenge a fearsome dragon and start an incredible journey to discover the beast's secrets and end the cycle of destruction. Dragon's Dogma features exhilarating skill-based action combat, free exploration of a rich environment, and a Pawn system.

Players take on the role of the Arisen, a peasant chosen for something greater. They can customize the protagonist's appearance through vast options that affect gameplay in an intuitive way. Players initially choose from three basic classes — the Fighter, Mage or Strider — each with different abilities and fighting styles. Players can advance from these basic vocations to hybrid or prestige classes for a total of nine classes.

Dragon's Dogma introduces a team dynamic called the Pawn system. Otherworldly AI partners called Pawns aid the Arisen. A customizable main Pawn companion accompanies the Arisen throughout, while two support Pawns can be swapped out based on the your needs. Players recruit Pawns by venturing into the Rift, a space between worlds that can be accessed on- or offline. Players can rent out their main Pawn companion to friends as temporary secondary Pawns in those parties. Whatever experience is gained by the rented Pawn on these excursions is brought back in the form of strategic knowledge and loot. Dragon's Dogma ships with thousands of ready-made Pawns for offline selection.

Players can dive into tennis matches in single-player mode or invite others to join in the fun using a local wireless or Wi-Fi Internet connection. With each victory, players accumulate coins that can be redeemed for virtual items like rackets, sneakers and tennis uniforms, which enhance the appearance of Mii characters and boost stats.

The action in Mario Tennis Open can get fast and furious as players trade serves, volleys, drop shots and cross-court smashes. A variety of Special Games also let players practice their swings and explore new challenges.

As many as four players can connect online to play Mario Tennis Open together in singles or doubles matches. The new Open Match mode can also be used to pair a player in a singles game with an online opponent of a similar skill level, and players can view their standings via online leaderboards. With a local wireless connection, Nintendo 3DS owners can connect and play together even if only one of them owns a Mario Tennis Open game card.
