Cognition is a thought-provoking mystery following Erica Reed, a Boston-based FBI agent, haunted by the unsolved case of a serial killer who took her brother’s life. Taking a turn for the strange, Erica investigates with the ability of post-cognition, sensing an object's past with a mere touch. What unravels is a much greater, much more complex and enigmatic mystery, as it becomes clear that someone knows her secret.
In the high-stress hunt to save him, Erica Reed began developing the strange and uncontrolled power of post-cognition: by touching an object, she can see its past, events that happened on, to, or around it. Though it’s undeniably useful in her line of work, her unease with this power has caused her both personal and professional problems. And every serial killer case that comes to the bureau leaves her wondering if this one is the man who killed her brother. When she comes across a crime scene that has clues that were left specifically for someone with her abilities, a new hunt is on.
Who knows her secret? How? And what do they want from her?
“Cognition is a smart, narrative-driven game that both fits in nicely and yet stands apart in our library of published titles,” said Ted Lange, executive producer of Reverb Publishing. “The art is truly outstanding and evocative of the game’s gritty atmosphere. It’s very exciting to see old-school point-and-click games like this come back in full force, and Cognition is a stellar example to set.”
To bring you this game, Phoenix Online Studios has joined forces with Khaeon Gamestudio, an independent studio based in the Netherlands. After playing The Silver Lining, Khaeon approached Phoenix Online to develop Cognition, a project originally conceived by Art Director Romano Molenaar, well-known for his works in the comics industry on titles including X-Men, Witchblade, and Tomb Raider. With Romano leading the art team, Phoenix Online Studios are excited to expand on the graphic novel look and feel of Cognition into a fully and interactive experience.
And last but far from least, Jane Jensen is the game's Story Consultant! A lot of the people at Phoenix have been huge fans of Jane's work since her early days at Sierra, through to her latest release of Gray Matter this past year. To have the creator of Gabriel Knight, one of the first and most influential supernatural investigator adventure games, acting as a guiding hand on our story is a dream come true-- and, let's face it, really lucky to have her on board!
Last Year Phoenix Online Studios set up a Kickstarter page to fund the project, easily reached its first milestone ($25.000 to complete the game) and was even able to increase its funding to $32.000.
