'Hellraid' (ALL) Needs More Polishing, Delayed until 2014

by Rainier on Oct. 30, 2013 @ 2:26 p.m. PDT

Hellraid is a first-person co-op slasher that offers two games in one: a single-player, story-driven campaign of hack & slash action; and unique, co-operative multiplayer that pits four players against the denizens of hell.

The armies of Hell brought pain and destruction to the realm of man, and only a select few have the fighting skills necessary to confront the devilish monstrosities. Combining elements of hack & slash RPGs, first-person shooters and online multiplayer games, Hellraid features an advanced, immersive combat system with melee, ranged and magical weapons. The engaging Game Master system makes each game a different experience, placing loot and enemies while generating random online challenges.

With exploration, looting, questing, weapon crafting, boss fights, armor customization, character development, leaderboards, magic and so much more, Hellraid is set to drag you straight to hell.

Techland game producer Marcin Kruczkiewicz issued the following statement:

Since we started developing Hellraid we have had a clear goal to create a game that we all would love to play. We wanted to pay tribute to the best aspects of classic titles we grew up on and enhance them with new ideas, modern technology and extensive co-op that would provide players with dozens or even hundreds of hours of pure and bloody fun.

The decision to release Hellraid in 2014 was made in order to implement new ideas and redesign those parts of the game that fans didn’t like while playtesting the game. For example we want to redesign the magic system to make it even more powerful and diverse, add new ways of casting spells and a set of new, more visually stunning spells. The team wants to use this additional time also to add new gameplay features and game modes which should make the game even more entertaining for both single player and 4-player co-op.

If we released our game this year we would have to make too many compromises and the final product probably wouldn’t meet all our promises and your expectations. That’s why we’ve made a tough decision to release Hellraid in 2014 or to be more precise: when it’s done.

Why? The additional time will give us the chance to add new features and completely new game modes for single player and co-op that until now we haven’t had time to finish. We also want to use this time to rethink a few things. Playtesting our game with fans and players who visited our office gave us a lot of fresh insight and new perspective on many aspects of the game. For example we want to redesign the magic system to make it even more powerful and diverse, add new ways of casting spells and a set of new, more visually stunning spells.

We believe that with this decision Hellraid will deliver all that we’ve promised and even more. You’ll still be able to read about its development and see it for yourself on this blog. We also hope that you’ll keep supporting us just like you did so far with all your ideas and comments on the blog, in e-mails (we really have to answer them more often), on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the Steam Community Hub forum.
