'Next Car Game' Releases Playable Retro Demo To Pimp Kickstarter Campaign

by Rainier on Nov. 8, 2013 @ 10:58 a.m. PST

Wreckfest is a demolition derby-themed racing game with special attention paid to soft-body damage modeling, sophisticated driving dynamics and in-depth vehicle upgrading, featuring both demolition derbies and more traditional track races.

Have you ever hoped you could get back to the glorious days of Demolition Derby and FlatOut, climb behind the wheel of your banged-up ride and once again wreck your way to the finish line and show who’s the boss? You’re not the only one. Over the years, we’ve been asked thousands of times when are we going to get back to our roots and make another racing game that would capture the same spirit of over-the-top action and reckless racing.

Finnish studio Bugbear has launched a Kickstarter campaign looking for $350,000 to complete the development of their Next Car Game.

You can now download a prototype that we created over 10 years ago that has never been shown publicly. The prototype is a little rough around the edges, but it served as an initial actualization of our vision for a reckless racing game, and despite the humble beginnings, it later grew into a game franchise loved by millions of fans.

The foundation for our proprietary physics engine was laid down in the prototype, and even today, the physics engine we use is based on the very same core. Actually, even the code wizard who developed it over ten years ago is working on our amazing Next Car Game!

To make things clear, this is NOT the sneak peek technology demo of the Next Car Game. It will be released right after the Kickstarter campaign has ended so that you can get a taste of things to come and help us develop the best demolition racing game ever!

Next Car Game is going to bring those unforgettable moments up-to-date, throw in the mix vehicle upgrading and spice it all up with massive online races where players can battle it out with their tricked out bangers.

Bugbear's Next Car Game is all about fun, breakneck racing and over-the-top crashes. We don’t shy away from contact, and indeed, our in-house engine is all about what happens when cars collide with each other and the world around them at reckless speeds.

It’s motorsport, but not just any motorsport. It’s motorsport with attitude.

Expect epic crashes and tight, neck-to-neck fights over the finish line on run-down racing tracks. Expect proper, big demolition derbies. Expect brand new ways for metal to bend and the defining once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation.

And don’t think that’s all.

Not only the technology has been completely overhauled and brought up-to-date, but we’ve also gone to the source and figured out what a game like Next Car Game is really all about: taking your rust bucket, building it into a formidable track weapon and then battling it out on the track. To that end there’s now a lot of focus on car building and maintenance, with hunting for rare, sought-after parts and replacing damaged components, all that brings an added tactical element to the gameplay.
