Get the Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey Trailer off WP (185mb)

Red Thread Games has licensed the rights to The Longest Journey universe from Funcom, and is funding the production of Dreamfall Chapters independently. The new studio, staffed with veterans from the Norwegian game development scene, is asking for $850,000 in crowdfunding. This is in addition to the $175,000 grant Dreamfall Chapters has received from the Norwegian Film Institute.

Pledgers can expect rewards ranging from a digital copy of the game, to various boxed editions including short stories, a graphic novel, and an official soundtrack. Higher tiers will even allow pledgers to make fun creative contributions to the game.

The game is being developed in collaboration with Blink Studios and brings together the original Dreamfall team, including writer/director Ragnar Tørnquist (The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, The Secret World), art director Christer Sveen (Dreamfall, The Secret World) and writer Dag Scheve (Dreamfall, The Secret World). Lead designer Martin Bruusgard (Age of Conan, The Secret World) is also joining the core team, bringing fresh eyes and years of design experience to the project.

"It's an amazing feeling to have the team back together, and to be able to continue the story," says Ragnar Tørnquist, founder of Red Thread Games and creator of The Longest Journey saga. "We're hoping there are enough fans of the first two games out there, along with new gamers who want to play a real adventure game, to meet our Kickstarter goal. We're relying on crowdfunding to produce the game, and the Kickstarter campaign is incredibly important to us."

Revisiting familiar locations and characters, and introducing new sights and sounds, new faces, new game mechanics, new thrills and challenges, Dreamfall Chapters takes the player on an emotional, exciting and challenging journey -- from a dystopian cyberpunk future, through the mysterious and dreamlike Storytime, to the magical landscapes of Arcadia.

Red Thread Games aims to recapture the heart and soul of The Longest Journey and to improve on the immersion and game mechanics of Dreamfall in order to bring you a fitting, satisfying and emotional conclusion to the Dreamer Cycle.
