by Rainier on Oct. 16, 2014 @ 5:24 p.m. PDT

Trine 2 is an physics-based action platformer that takes the original's beloved triad and puts them into an all-new adventure filled with more action, more puzzles, and the introduction of online support for the series's popular cooperative 3-person gameplay.

Trine 2 takes gamers on another adventure with the powerful knight Pontius, the swift thief Zoya and the crafty wizard Amadeus. The three heroes embark on a new adventure more fantastic than ever, where you will have to survive lethal traps and terrifying monsters, solve many physics-based puzzles and unravel an epic mystery during a challenging campaign that can be played either solo or in co-op with up to 3 players online or offline! Featuring stunningly sumptuous visuals, a masterful original soundtrack, and clever physics-based gameplay, Trine 2 is the perfect mix of old-school platforming action, original physics-based level design, and cooperative multiplayer fun!

Finnish game developer Frozenbyte announced that the Trine series has sold over 7 million copies worldwide. To celebrate this milestone, the editor tools for Trine Enchanted Edition and Trine 2: Complete Story have been released on Steam – accompanied by a Free Weekend promotion that includes a 80% discount on both games.

The Trine series has been released on a total of eight platforms: PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, Mac, Linux and Android. This vast selection has been made possible by Frozenbyte's flexible inhouse engine and development tools, and now the editor part of this toolset is available for anyone who has the games on Steam.

The editor for the Trine games gives users a first-hand look at the development process. Players can now do the same things to Trine or Trine 2 as the developers; They can edit existing maps to their liking, create entirely new ones from scratch, or even create a completely different game. The mods can then be published on the newly opened Steam Workshop pages for Trine and Trine 2 for everyone to try. While the editor software might take some time getting used to, a growing open wiki with helpful guides for getting started has been made available at here.

Anyone on Steam can now download and try Trine and Trine 2 for free during the weekend, starting on Thursday, 16 October at 10am PT and ending on Sunday, 19 October at 1pm PT.

"We've reached a higher userbase than we ever thought possible, but now we hope that people who've yet to play the Trine games will give them a shot during the Free Weekend on Steam. Opening up the games to user generated content is something we've wanted to do for a long time, and we're thrilled to see what people can come up with using the Editors," said CEO of Frozenbyte Lauri Hyvärinen.
