'Prodigy' Kickstarter Campaign Nearing Next Stretch Goal - Trailer

by Rainier on April 29, 2014 @ 2:43 p.m. PDT

Prodigy is a tactical RPG game that combines high quality figurines with video games, bringing players into a universe rich in fantasy and action.

Prodigy, powered by Unreal Engine 4, features squad-based figurine combat and takes advantage of NFC (Near Field Communication) technology and a USB game board to bring the game alive on screen.

Prodigy uses NFC technology to create a link between the real and the virtual as players position figurines on a USB game board, which immediately warps the characters into the heat of battle in the game world. The single player campaign takes players on an epic narrative with a company from the world of Thasys, powering up each of the heroes along the way. Multiplayer gameplay focuses on squad-based combat with fast paced player-on-player combat, an intense battle of wits where the only best strategist survives.

With only three more days to go in its Kickstarter campaign for Prodigy, developer Hanakai Studio now has over 1000 backers pledging over $180,000 for the game.

Prodigy’s fusion of tabletop figurines and tactical fantasy videogame action is closing in on the $250k stretch goal which will unlock an ambitious new game mode called Kingdom, offering a completely new strategic dimension to the game.

A Twitch stream focusing on both the gameplay and figurines is scheduled for Wednesday the 30th at 2 PM EDT / 11 AM PDT and will feature a livestream Q&A with the team, including founder/designer Jean Bey (check here for your local time).

The Prodigy Kickstarter campaign offers a large variety of unique, exclusive rewards for early supporters. For $400 dollars, Alpha Founders will receive an early access game board and their choice of figurine Company pack, allowing them to take an active role in the game’s development – and also receive the final game upon release. There are many additional rewards available and, depending on the pledge level, backers can receive different types of Company Starter packs which include the final game and digital-only content exclusive to Kickstarter backers. Also available are figurines, artbooks, collector statues and much more. An extensive trailer and full list of Prodigy pledge rewards can be found on the Kickstarter page.

You will play with a Company, a group of adventurers devoted to one of the Factions of the world, Thasys. Each character is represented by a figurine of exceptional quality that carries its own characteristics and story, and is dedicated to one Company.

Your choices, the characters of your Company, their evolution and your tactical thinking will win numerous battles, making you one of the heroes of your Faction.

In the world of Thasys, most races rely on Mana to survive. This magical energy is now growing scarce, and wars for survival are devastating the land as magical beings fight over the last scraps of Mana.

Entire civilizations are destroying each other. The end draws nearer as the All-Mother of Darkness threatens to devour all worlds.

The Eris comet has flown through the sky, heralding the time for new champions to appear. A few chosen ones, children of the feeble and powerless humans, are rising to save Thasys.

These prodigies are our last hope.
