'Caffeine' Tries Crowd Funding Again - Screens

by Rainier on May 21, 2014 @ 8:42 a.m. PDT

Caffeine is a sci-fi horror game in which you awaken to find yourself as a young boy on what appears to be some kind of space station or craft seemingly alone. The only thing that can be done is to explore this structure to find out what exactly has happened here.

The Year is 2097, the Earth is over-populated and is lacking resources.

The most consumed drug is caffeine and companies have countless outposts among the stars mining the resources required to quench the endless thirst of Earth's population.

Caffeine will primarily be a Sci-Fi Horror game, but at the same time employ a strong focus on both adventure and narrative and will include some smart puzzle game play. There will be no weapons in Caffeine but you will be able to use the environment around you.

Scattered around the environment there will be a mass of notes, audio logs and clues to what the employees at the station were up to and what was going on in their lives, hopefully creating a great deal of lore for the world of Caffeine.

After failing to raise a mere 5% on its Indiegogo campaign last month, Australian based studio Incandescent Imaging has launched a kickstarter crowd sourcing campaign looking for $70,000 (Australian Dollar) to fund development of Caffeine.

Caffeine started out as an Unreal Engine 3 game but is now being built upon the power of the brand new Unreal Engine 4 which gives me the freedom to push the limits of visual fidelity and game play.

While not confirmed yet, Caffeine may also be coming to PS4 as well as add Oculus Rift support, depending on how successful the crowd funding campaign is.
