Wednesday, Sony announced details about the pricing of the digital version of DriveClub.

All PlayStation Plus members will get free access to the stripped-down PlayStation Plus Edition of the game, which offers a limited selection of cars and tracks. PlayStation Plus members would also be able to purchase a digital copy of the game for $50 via an upgrade option. The stand-alone Blu-ray disc version of DriveClub will retail for $60. In effect, PS Plus members were being offered a $10 discount. This is similar to the discounts often offered by retailers such as Amazon or Best Buy when pre-ordering a game.

The "catch" with the original offer, though, was big. Unlike other PS Plus games sold at a discount, Sony originally planned for DriveClub to be tied to your PS Plus subscription. If PS Plus ran out, you would have lost access to your $50 copy of DriveClub.

Today, Sony reversed course, making the following statement:

Our priority for DriveClub is to enable you to play and enjoy everything it has to offer and PlayStation recognises that the prior plan for DriveClub entitlement for the upgrade to the PS Plus edition was not appropriate. As a result, we have adjusted the PlayStation Plus terms for DriveClub.

Now, If you intend on downloading DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition, and upgrading to the full game experience, you will have access to the full game even if your PlayStation Plus subscription runs out.

This means anyone who purchases the full, digital version of DriveClub will always have access to it, regardless of the status of their PS Plus subscription.
