'Dreamfall Chapters' Completes Unity 5 Upgrade, Book 4 This Week - Trailer

by Rainier on Nov. 30, 2015 @ 8:53 a.m. PST

Dreamfall Chapters begins right where Dreamfall: The Longest Journey ended, continuing the epic saga of the twin worlds of science and magic in a brand new format.

Dreamfall Chapters is divided into thirteen chapters and five books. Each chapter is designed for a single gameplay session — much like an episode of a TV show — and each book is designed to have a beginning, middle and end; a story arc within the greater story arc.

Revisiting familiar locations and characters, and introducing new sights and sounds, new faces, new game mechanics, new thrills and challenges, Dreamfall Chapters takes the player on an emotional, exciting and challenging journey -- from a dystopian cyberpunk future, through the mysterious and dreamlike Storytime, to the magical landscapes of Arcadia.

While Book 4 was initially revealed as "slightly delayed," developer Red Thread has been running into major issues porting Dreamfall Chapters Book 1-3 to Unity 5.x, and since each "Book" is part of a cohesive game, the entire package needs to be ported or not at all. A few weeks back Red Thread decided to temporarily halt development on the Book 4 chapter to focus on getting the previous installment up to par, but now it is ready for prime time.

Book Four arrives on Steam, GOG and Humble this Thursday, December 3rd. This update also includes the full Unity 5 engine overhaul, which brings a ton of changes, optimisations and graphical upgrades to the first three episodes.
