'Halo 5: Guardians' (XOne) To Get Big Team Battle

by Rainier on Nov. 9, 2015 @ 11:12 p.m. PST

Halo 5: Guardians is the next installment in the saga of the Master Chief, with more content, and larger in scope than its predecessor, built from the ground up with a brand new and more powerful engine.

Halo 5: Guardians continues the story of the Master Chief, and introduces a brand new central character to the Halo universe – Spartan Locke.  Peace is shattered when colony worlds are unexpectedly attacked.  And when humanity’s greatest hero goes missing, Spartan Locke is tasked with hunting the Master Chief and solving a mystery that threatens the entire galaxy.

Experience the most dramatic Halo story to date in a four-player cooperative epic that spans three worlds. Challenge friends and rivals in new multiplayer modes: Warzone, massive 24-player battles, and Arena, pure 4-versus-4 competitive combat.

One of the most exciting (and most requested!) Halo game types is coming to Halo 5: Guardians in an upcoming update.

The Big Team Battle will be coming to Halo 5: Guardians, providing vehicular-based, 8v8 carnage on expansive maps. To create these maps, the team at 343 Industries brought some of the community’s top Forgers into the studio and let them loose with the tool. Inspired by classic BTB battlegrounds like Sidewinder, Standoff, Burial Mounds, Longbow, and Headlong, these intrepid Forgers began work on what would become the first batch of new Big Team battle maps.

“The Forgers continued to provide feedback and direction for the map, and the team here at the studio continued to iterate on flow, polish, spawn and objective placement, look and feel, and more,” said 343 Industries Community Manager Andy “Bravo” Dudynsky. “For the past few months, these maps have been playtested and polished in preparation for the release of Big Team Battle, and in just over a week, the first four maps will be available in Arena matchmaking.”

The four maps featured will be

  • Deadlock (Inspired by: Standoff)
  • Basin (Inspired by: Valhalla)
  • Guillotine (Inspired by: Headlong)
  • Recurve(Inspired by: Longbow)
