'Shadowrun: Hong Kong' Crowd Funding Final Weekend, Adds New Stretch Goal

by Rainier on Feb. 13, 2015 @ 9:26 a.m. PST

Shadowrun: Hong Kong is the 3rd stand-alone game set in the cyberpunk-meets-magic world of Shadowrun.

Set in the magically awakened city of Hong Kong in 2056, players will find themselves exploring the underworld of triads, tongs, wild magic, and bleeding edge cybertech with a crew of flawed, dangerous runners each with their own backstory and special abilities.

Unlike the crowdfunding development of Shadowrun Returns, Harebrained Schemes is approaching this Kickstarter differently, asking backers to become co-funding partners so they can add more to Shadowrun: Hong Kong.

We had an incredibly strong launch for Shadowrun: Hong Kong and the project was funded in just 1 hour and 46 minutes – which might end up being the biggest software Kickstarter in the last 12 months! As with all our games, we listen hard to what our audience is looking for and added exciting new features, characters, and missions as each funding level was reached.

To the delight of our Backers, we smashed through 12 funding goals including our $700k goal, which unlocked a revamp to the art & gameplay of the Matrix.

We are now on track to reach our $1 million funding goal that will allow us to create an a 4-5 hour Shadows of Hong Kong MINI-CAMPAIGN which takes place after the story ends. The mini-campaign will allow players to import their character from Shadowrun: Hong Kong to extend their challenge. The Shadows of Hong Kong Mini-Campaign will be FREE to Backers at the $15 level and up and will be available for purchase as DLC when it is released.

Luke Crane, Games Lead at Kickstarter says, “We're so glad that we kicked off 2015 with a new Shadowrun project. For nearly three years now, the Harebrained Schemes Shadowrun team has been delivering way more than they promised to their Kickstarter backers, and the new Hong Kong installment looks to continue the tradition.”

Keeping in mind both tabletop fans and fans of the SNES and Genesis videogames, Harebrained Schemes also added two new bonuses for Backers at the $35 level and up, as well as a new $65 and $100 Reward Level.

$35 REWARD LEVEL BONUSES

In addition to the rest of the rewards at their level, all Backers at $35 and above will get an Audio Commentary Track from the Shadowrun Development Team and Two Hi-Res Digital Posters.

The Audio Commentary will feature the writers, designers, artists, engineers, and composer discussing how the game was made, challenges they faced, and fun they had making the game. The Posters will be a Timeline of Shadowrun History and a Glossary of Shadowrun Slang. When placed side by side, they will create a beautiful Shadowrun Panorama.

$65 REWARD LEVEL

A $65 Reward Stand-Alone Level was added for backers who don’t play tabletop RPGs but want to support the project in a big way. These backers get all three Shadowrun games and soundtracks, exclusive character portraits, an original Shadowrun e-novel by Mel Odom based on Shadowrun: Hong Kong and more!

$100 REWARD LEVEL

The $100 Reward Level is for folks who love fiction and trivia and adds a fully-annotated digital version of the original, long out-of-print Shadowrun short story anthology Into the Shadows to the other rewards.

The new Anthology will include an updated foreword by Jordan Weisman, the creator of Shadowrun, plus an original new short story by Tom Dowd, a co-creator.

Shadowrun: Hong Kong will be developed for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems only, with DRM-free versions available through GOG and Humble. Harebrained Schemes expects to release the game at a price point similar to their previous games.
