'Final Fantasy XV' (ALL) Goes Gold, Season Pass/DLC Details -Trailer

by Rainier on Oct. 27, 2016 @ 8:05 a.m. PDT

In Final Fantasy XV, previously known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, the armed forces of Niflheim launch a devastating assault upon the Kingdom of Lucis, casting Crown Prince Noctis and his comrades out of their homes and into the fray.

Previously known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, the title’s development expanded and evolved to take full advantage of the capabilities of next-generation platforms. While the main concept, world and story continue to be developed as originally envisioned, the First Production Development Team has further improved Final Fantasy XV s action, gameplay elements and graphic quality to match the technology of the next-generation hardware, as well as the expectations of players eagerly awaiting the game’s release.

Final Fantasy XV promises to bring a darker, real world tinge to the long-running series. Explore cities, take on intricate quests, and progress through a compelling storyline to save your home and the world itself.

Omen is a conceptual CG cinematic trailer created by the world-renowned 3D animation studio DIGIC Pictures, who also worked on KINGSGLAIVE™: Final Fantasy XV. Noctis navigates a rapidly shifting world, endless waves of enemies, a gradual loss of abilities, and a madness that brings harm to his beloved fiancée. Inspired by the world and story of Final Fantasy XV, the trailer depicts a nightmarish “omen” for Noctis’ father King Regis—a catastrophic future that must be avoided.

With Final Fantasy XV achieving gold status, development will now shift towards creation of the Season Pass ($24.99) DLC that will provide further content and ways to enjoy Final Fantasy XV into the year ahead.

The main focus of the Season Pass is three original episodes that take place during the events of Final Fantasy XV. Each episode allows players to take control of one of Noctis’ comrades in all-new adventures that offer unique play styles tailored to each character. Players can explore previously unseen areas filled with new monsters, and even obtain weapons that can later be used in the main game. Episode Gladiolus is the first new character adventure to arrive, and will be followed by Episode Ignis and Episode Prompto. Each episode will be available for purchase individually.

Following the release of the character episodes, Comrades—an expansion pack for Final Fantasy XV —will introduce a brand-new online co-op mode for up to four players which features intense battles allowing players to take full control of Noctis, Gladio, Prompto and Ignis as a group. Comrades will be available for separate purchase, and is also included in the Season Pass.

This additional content and character episodes are managed by Haruyoshi Sawatari (Producer, Business Division 2) and overseen by Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata with development led by core members of the Final Fantasy XV team.

“Last year I travelled around the world and attended many game events. I felt an amazing passion and sense of expectation towards Final Fantasy XV from series fans everywhere,” said Sawatari. “From seeing that I really wanted to make it so that the fans could enjoy the game for longer and evolve and expand it even further. I will take these feelings and give them form, to deliver an amazing experience.”

Deception and treachery has shattered the promising truce that would've ended the long shadow war between the mystical kingdom of Lucis the militant empire of Niflheim. The world's last crystal is gone, taken by Niflheim agents as they launch simultaneous attacks on their neighbor nations. Noctis, Prince of Lucis, sets out to stop the empire and reclaim his home's crystal, the source of their magical power and protection. Will he and his friends be successful in their quest? What will this dark, new world reveal before the final act?

In a matter of days, the Kingdom of Lucis is to sign an armistice, ending a long and bitter conflict with Niflheim. Ahead of the ceremony, Prince Noctis, heir to the Lucian throne, sets forth from his homeland to formalize the union of states through his marriage to the Lady Lunafreya of the imperial province of Tenebrae.

The offer of peace, however, is no more than a ruse to lower the Lucian shield, and the imperial army takes the crown city and its sacred crystal in one fell swoop. En route to his destination, Noctis is shocked to learn that he, his father the king, and his betrothed are believed dead.

Overnight, the dream of peace has faded into a distant memory. His world crumbling around him, Noctis has naught but his resolve and his loyal companions to see him through the trials to come.
