Tales Of Berseria is the first Tales Of game to feature a female character as its singular main protagonist.
In Tales Of Berseria players embark on a journey as they assume the role of Velvet, a young woman whose once gentle nature has been replaced and overcome with a festering anger and hatred after a traumatic experience three years prior to the events within Tales Of Berseriaimbued her left hand with a special ability. Velvet will visit a wide range of breathtaking environments as she travels the world in an all-new adventure developed by the celebrated team behind the Tales Of series. Along her journey, Velvet will meet a whole cast of characters, including a young boy named Laphicet. If Velvet is the embodiment of “darkness,” then Laphicet is created in the image of “light” and will be an important ally to Velvet.
Veteran Tales Of character designers; Mutsumi Inomata, Kosuke Fujishima, Minoru Iwamoto, and Daigo Okumura will be returning to help create the game’s many characters, while famous Japanese animation studio, ufotable, returns to animate the game’s breathtaking cutscenes, delivering truly epic and emotional storytelling in their unique style. The two announced characters, Velvet and Laphicet, are designed by Ms. Inomata and Mr. Iwamoto, respectively.
Magilou (voiced in Japanese by Satomi Sato) is an unknown woman who proclaims herself to be the “great sorceress” while others see her as the practitioner of “unlicensed witchcraft.” Her free and carefree behavior can make her the life of the party, but this trickster has a hidden dark side towards Velvet.
Bienfu (voiced in Japanese by Nao Nagasawa) is a peculiar malak (a spiritual being that can harness the power of nature) that has a unique form and personality, often expressing himself by saying, “Bieeen” and “Bad!” Although small in size, he makes up for it with his strength and bravery.
Bienfu and Magilou appear to have history together, but this mysterious relationship doesn’t seem to have ended well.

With them, a new battle system feature has also been introduced: the Break Soul. This action, specific to each character, permits the player to exceed the normal number of Artes in a combo. When done correctly, a special effect occurs.
Discover among others Velvet’s Break Soul “Consuming Claw”, which enables her to eat an enemy’s ability through her mutated left hand. There’s also Magilou’s Break Soul “Spell Absorber”, which allows the player to cancel an enemy’s action and absorb their mana.
