by Rainier on Aug. 30, 2016 @ 4:45 p.m. PDT

Sid Meier's Civilization VI is a turn-based strategy that offers players new ways to interact with their world, expand their empire across the map, advance their culture, and compete against history’s greatest leaders to build a civilization to stand the test of time.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI sets another milestone in the Civilization franchise, which has sold-in over 34 million units worldwide and changed the gaming landscape by bringing the strategy genre to unparalleled heights. In Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, cities will physically expand across the map to create new, deep strategic layers, active research in technology and culture will unlock new potential ways to play; and the large variety of leaders will pursue their own agendas based on their historical character traits as players race to achieve victory however they choose to play.

Returning to lead India in Civilization VI is the beloved Mahatma Gandhi. Born in British-ruled India, Gandhi was famed for his courageous passive movements towards alleviating poverty, increasing women’s rights, promoting religious harmony and, most prominently, obtaining India’s independence.

Gandhi led the campaign for India’s independence from British rule through a specific philosophy of nonviolent resistance called Satyagraha. Some of his movements included the famed Salt March, multiple hunger strikes and more, which often led to long stints in prison and harm to himself.

Gandhi also worked to unite Hindus and Muslims in the country, which drew the attention of many would-be assassins. After five failed attempts on his life, Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, leaving a nation and world in mourning. As the preeminent nonviolent activist, Gandhi’s influence changed the course of human history, setting the stage for leaders such as Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela who drew from his inspiring nonviolent philosophies for change.

  • Unique Unit (Varu): Originating in India, the Varu, otherwise known as the War Elephant, is one of the world’s most intimidating cavalry units. Atop the Varu rests a wooden box where archers and pikemen can attack infantry units relatively safe from harm, while the elephant itself presents multiple dangers to any soldiers within its path.
  • Unique Improvement (Stepwell): Indian Stepwells are man-made ponds in which water is aggregated at the center of a series of descending stairs. Marked by complex and elaborate designs that expanded beyond just utilitarian, stepwells made water readily available year-round for drinking, irrigation, bathing, and other uses.

Key Features:
