'Death end re;Quest' (PS4) Introduces Protagonists, Basic System And Battle Flow - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Oct. 9, 2018 @ 1:19 p.m. PDT

Death end re;Quest takes the classic turn-based RPG and turns it on its head, allowing players to change the game's genre and switch game modes from RPG into fighting, shooter, and even a slot mode!

With a 99% fail rate, how willing are you to save a long lost friend?

Arata Mizunashi, a video game programmer, receives a notification from an email sent to him by Shina Ninomiya, a colleague of his who went missing nearly one year ago. Together, they worked to create World’s Odyssey (W.O.D.), an immersive virtual landscape powered by breathtaking, state-of-the-art technology. That is, until Shina's sudden disappearance put a swift halt to production. Arata discovers the startling revelation that Shina Ninomiya was stuck inside of “W.O.D.” the whole time. When Arata delves hurriedly back into the lines of code haunting his forsaken project, he realizes that his game is now ravaged by an infestation of bugs, and that Shina is its only active player.

Arata soon learns that a nefarious force prevents him from extracting Shina out of the game. Her only way out? She must complete the game to unlock the perfect ending—an outcome with a success rate of 1%. On their journey, they encounter a slew of NPC characters that blur perceptions of humanity and A.I.-technology, setting into a motion a thrilling narrative that calls into question the differences between the virtual world and ours.

Little do they know what horrors await them on both sides of the screen...

You'll also be able to jump at will between the in-game world and the real world to investigate your missing friend, unlocking one of multiple endings. Choose wisely as lines between fantasy and reality will begin to blur...

The Protagonists

  • Shina Ninomiya: Shina wakes up inside of World's Odyssey, the VRMMORPG which had been cancelled for nearly a year, with no memory of her arrival. She served as the game's director for the duration of its development until her mysterious disappearance. With no way to perform a manual log-out, she sets out to complete the game's perfect ending
  • Arata Mizunashi: Enigma Games' lead programmer, who helped develop World's Odyssey alongside Shina Ninomiya. A year after Shina's disappearance, he finds that she is trapped inside World's Odyssey and needs to get the perfect ending to log out safely. In order to help Shina on her quest, Arata manipulates the game's code in real-time, fixing bugs that threaten the lives of her and her party. It is up to Arata to travel between the game and the real world to investigate the mystery of Shina's disappearance...

Basic System And Battle Flow

Basic Battle: You can move freely around the battlefield.

Strategize before defeating your enemies. This game uses a turn-based command battle system. There will be 3 members in battle, and you can switch characters in and out during your turn. The order of turns is determined by the speed of each character. At the start of each character's turn, they are able to move about freely on the field, so you can choose to perform combos with your character, or attack from outside the enemy's range to keep units safe.

Triact: Perform up to three actions in one turn.

The Triact system allows players to take three actions in one turn. Actions include the "Attack", "Item", or "Guard" under the "Skill"menu. Selecting multiple of the same skill compounds effects. For example, by chosing "Attack, Guard, Guard", you may attack, and your guard will be stronger than usual, allowing you to strategize the potency of your skills.

Knockback System: Send enemies flying!

When using either "Action" or "Command", some attacks within the Triact can initiate a "knockback" which blasts your enemies across the battlefield. Knockbacks deal your enemies damage, while also damaging "field bugs", tiny insects lurking around the battlefield that carry negative effects. If you blast an enemy monster into another, both receive additional damage. If an enemy is knocked into an ally, she may perform the "knock blow" action, which allows her to strike the incoming foe for a devastating combo.

Flash Drive System: Obtain new skills by initiating the Flash Drive

The Flash Drive system allows to perform unique skills that initiate only when a certain combination is performed in the Triact. Each character has a variety of skills at their disposal, but some are only discoverable by performing them with the Flash Drive system. Even at lower levels, players can initiate extremely powerful skills to turn the tide in battle. However, using these intense skills requires a lot of SP (Skill Points), which can limit the amount of time these skills can be used in battle if the SP gauge is too low. Experiment with skill combinations to complete all skill sets!
