'Assetto Corsa Competizione' Early Access Update Adds New Car, Circuit, Multiplayer Functionalities

by Rainier on Nov. 14, 2018 @ 8:44 a.m. PST

Assetto Corsa Competizione is a racing simulation game allowing players to experience the real atmosphere of the GT3 series, players can compete against official drivers, teams, accessing to all cars and circuits with the highest level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Taking full advantage of Unreal Engine 4, Assetto Corsa Competizione will ensure the highest quality rendering with photorealistic weather conditions and graphics to reach a new standard in driving realism and immersion racing. Players will experience highspeed torque as they get behind the wheel of luxurious speedsters including Ferraris and other prestigious GT cars reproduced with an outstanding level of detail. Motion capture technology is used to create the animations of mechanics and drivers in an even more realistic fashion and guarantee a high level of player engagement during races, pit stops and driver changes.

Assetto Corsa Competizione will be zooming onto Steam Early Access this summer, allowing players to test in advance features and content that will be progressively disclosed.

Assetto Corsa Competizione is the new official game of the Blancpain GT series, named after world-renowned Swiss watch manufacture Blancpain and organized by SRO Motorsports Group.

Steam Early Access release #3 features the first Online Multiplayer functionalities, Paul Ricard circuit (Le Castellet - FR) and the new beast: BMW M6 GT3, together with Endurance game mode and a more complex pit-stop system.

The BMW M6 GT3 is one of the cars anticipated the most by our fan community, and, just like the Bentley Continental GT3, a completely new entry in the Assetto Corsa universe; it competes in both the Sprint and Endurance Cup of the European Blancpain GT Series, and secured victory at the 2018 Edition of the prestigious Spa-Francorchamps 24H race.

Circuit Paul Ricard is another great addition to the game, reproduced for the first time ever using Laserscan technology, allowing Assetto Corsa to offer the most accurate and detailed version of the French circuit ever seen in a racing simulation.

The new content will be available both in single player and in the new multiplayer mode, now available in its first basic iteration, allowing racers to join practice sessions with others.

About the multiplayer, online functionalities are in a first deployment state, this means that although the network development is regularly proceeding, the development team will use this Early Access mass test window to enforce the feedback on the Online Systems supporting AC Competizione’s netcode and will gradually introduce all the features that will need testing. Therefore, this build will introduce a very basic multiplayer mode that will allow gamers to join practice sessions on the 3 circuits currently available: Nurburgring GP, Misano World Circuit, and Circuit Paul Ricard, but of course you can expect further updates in following months. Full functionalities of the Multiplayer mode will be implemented in the final version of Assetto Corsa Competizione (1.0) - which will debut in Q1 2019- , when the team will have made all their best efforts to make ACC a reference for the four wheels e-sport environment.

From this release, Assetto Corsa Competizione’s Early Access Steam price-tag will grow to £29,99, as previously announced through our Early Access roadmap. If purchased at this price, you will gain access to all EA releases, including the final version (1.0).  The final game will include all cars and tracks of the ongoing Blancpain GT Season and it will also introduce career and championship modes. Furthermore, a free update will be released during the Summer of 2019, introducing the 2019 Season of the Blancpain GT Series Championship.

“We are glad to open our ‘online multiplayer doors’, giving a very first taste of it to our core Community, that is constantly helping us during this Early Access program. The Assetto Corsa Competizione Online Multiplayer is one of the most difficult aspects for our team because developing it on Unreal Engine 4, as we aim for an equal-to-better quality than what we had in Assetto Corsa, has been a completely new challenge for us. During the development process we had to face some unforeseen issues that slowed our workflow and prevented us finalising all of the multiplayer features expected for this release update. At this point we took into consideration the possibility to discard multiplayer completely from this build…this is definitely one of the risks of any Early Access Program” – says Marco Massarutto, Co-Founder, Brand & Product Executive Manager at KUNOS.

“However, we worked night and day to provide you a first bite of what you can expect from our multiplayer mode in the coming months. Succeeding in the implementation of a very basic multiplayer aspect that will allow gamers to join practice sessions on the 3 circuits currently available. This first multiplayer iteration is needed by us to heavy-test our network systems and get the data we need to fine tune it, while gradually including all the Online Multiplayer features expected in the final version, such as: matchmaking, rating, private servers, broadcasting/spectator mode and all the details needed to achieve the best Multiplayer experience that we’ve ever made. This addition gives a great chance to enjoy even more of the new content available in this build as we introduce the great BMW M6 GT3 and the Circuit Paul Ricard; that will represent a new exciting challenge for the racers, due to its unique layout and landscape. Thanks to the precision granted by the Laserscan Technology, the players will get the same level of depth and accuracy the real drivers use for their own training”.

The final version of the game will include:

  • MULTIPLAYER AND SINGLE PLAYER CAPABILITIES: Offering a well-structured ranking system, Assetto Corsa Competizione will evaluate individual performance and driving behavior to reward the most virtuous drivers and promote fair play in online competitions. Efficient matchmaking functions will ensure players can compete with opponents of similar skill level and easily find and join races online. Leaderboards will allow players to compare single lap performance with virtual pilots from around the world with the same car, circuit and weather conditions. Career, Championship and Free Play modes will also be available, offering a customized racing experience for all skill levels.
  • REALISTIC WEATHER CONDITIONS: Competitions of different durations, from Sprint 60’ races to the famous Spa 24H Endurance race, Assetto Corsa Competizione will give players the opportunity to compete in different moments of the entire 24-hour arc under a dynamic weather system, thanks to a highly realistic graphical reproduction of weather conditions and visibility.
  • ACCURATE CIRCUITS: With laser scan technology, every official circuit is recreated with the highest level of precision: All curbs and details perfectly fit their real counterparts to grant a gaming experience as faithful to reality as possible.
  • ADVANCED GRAPHICS AND AUDIO EFFECTS: Unreal Engine 4 guarantees photorealistic rendering and with multi-channel audio sampling of real GT cars, Assetto Corsa Competizione conveys captivating and immersive acoustic surrounding and realistic environmental effects.
