'Gunheart' (ALL) Early Access Update Adds Bonus Challenges, Optimizations, Improvements and More - Trailer

by Rainier on Feb. 27, 2018 @ 4:35 p.m. PST

Gunheart is a sci-fi multiplayer action/shooter designed for motion controls, co-op experience.

Gunheart combines the fun of summer sci-fi blockbuster movies with the polished genre-defining gameplay of Gears of War and Halo. Players transform into futuristic bounty hunters, linking their minds and hearts with robotic killing machines across the galaxy. Shedding bodies like bullet casings, players are able to adapt to any situation and move across the battlefield at the speed of thought as they enter a lawless frontier filled with rival factions, hostile aliens and wealth beyond measure waiting to be pulled from the heavens.

Gunheart's unique take on teleportation takes battlefield mobility to the next level, allowing players to teleport quickly through levels, engaging alien enemies with a variety of weapons, which can be held in either hand. Players can unlock the verticality of any space with a thought, raining hell from high ground and then quickly switching to up-close-and-personal surprise attacks. The game’s variety of weapons changes the way players move while unlocking new strategies on the battlefield. Mastering combat within Gunheart will rely on both real-world skill and agility.

The new content for Gunheart is now live and includes:

  • Weapon progression: unlock new abilities for your weapons by using them in combat;
  • Default mods: all weapons now have a signature modification that is applied as long as you have an open mod slot, increasing their utility as soon as you acquire them and offering more options as you unlock additional slots;
  • Bonus challenges: new challenge system added to reward you with extra loot for completing the objectives across missions;
  • Survival Mode - Money pumps: game mode has been revamped to offer additional strategy and interaction for players.  It’s a great place to earn some extra cash + loot;
  • Hit reactions and death animations: the team has spent a lot of time improving the responsiveness of dealing damage to enemies, improving the overall feel of combat fairly dramatically.  Weapons such as the shotgun now have a much more satisfying blast back when landing the killing blow on an enemy;
  • Combo weapon re-balance: we've loosened the consumption rate on ammo and increased the odds of finding ammo throughout missions to ensure you have more opportunity to utilize your combo weapons;
  • CPU Optimizations: an experimental object culling technique has been added to improve CPU performance, especially notable on CPUs that may be previously bottlenecked on single core performance;
  • Money/ammo/loot kegs can be blasted at other players, giving the rewards to that player instead of yourself;
  • New social tool items have been added.

Built from the ground up for VR and cooperative multiplayer gameplay, Gunheart has been designed to take full advantage of motion controls and 3D spaces within VR, bringing three players together in high speed, explosive matches.

Drifter Entertainment is a new start-up in the VR space formed by three veterans of the games industry. Each of the founders have spent years building the platforms that make AR and VR possible and now they're channeling that passion and experience into making some of the best damn VR games in the world. Ray Davis served as General Manager at Epic Games, leading engineering on Gears of War 1 and 2, overseeing the launch and growth of Unreal Engine 4 and Epic’s VR initiatives, including the acclaimed VR shooter Bullet Train. Kenneth Scott is an art director with 20 years of game development experience on games like Quake3, Doom3 and the Halo franchise, as well as time working at Oculus. Brian Murphy has spent the last decade working as designer and creative director for Microsoft Studios, taking several major platforms and games from incubation all the way to final product, including Xbox One, Microsoft HoloLens and Xbox Kinect.

Powered by Unreal Engine 4, Gunheart is available on Steam Early Access for HTC Vive and for Oculus Rift at the Oculus store for $29.99, with a PlayStation VR version coming later in 2018.
