Of Ships & Scoundrels is an interesting genre mix between strategy and action, and has been brewing for a while now. It not only features procedurally generated maps, islands with a Caribbean flair, but also generates quests and treasures procedurally, and also provides a “message in a bottle” system that displays community content like messages but also treasure maps.
In Of Ships & Scoundrels players level up their ships, build harbors and expand them with buildings to be well prepared against enemy forces.
As a player, you don’t actually get to play the hero, but rather the scoundrel. To make a name for yourself in the world of pirates, you have to forge dubious, but necessary alliances with other pirates, in order to defeat your ultimate enemy, Lord Melville. This results in interesting twists in the story that lead to an epic finale.
Although the game seems to partly be finished already, Korion Games wants to collect at least 25,000€ via Kickstarter to apply the final touches.
The more money the team collects, the more features and supported platforms will be included: The standard version will be released for PC (Steam, DRM-free).
