April 26th, 1:23 AM Ukrainian time. Exactly at this date and time the Chernobyl nuclear catastrophe has started. The melted core of the burning Reactor No. 4 mixed with the other chemical substances to create a highly radioactive material that hadn't exist anywhere in the world besides Chernobyl.
But it's just the beginning.
The Farm 51, known for first-person survival horror game Get Even, are a game development team from Poland that has been spending a lot of time in Chernobyl Exclusion Zone gathering all data and materials required to make the ultimate survival horror experience of the Chernobyl catastrophe.
We want to bring you a deep, emotional story, engaging survival and horror experience, and a visually stunning recreation of Chernobyl area achieved with detailed 3D scanning of rich game world, beautifully rendered in Unreal Engine 4.
You will visit Chernobyl like you have never seen before. In the following months, apart from photos and movies we'll be taking on our trips to Chernobyl Zone, showing materials from in-game environment and teasing the story and characters.
Let's start with the look on how we craft the moods of our game locations.
We always begin with a photography, because every place from the game has its counterpart in the Chernobyl Zone. Do you know that we're spending many weeks every quarter in the Zone to get this material?
Then we discuss how we'd really like to feel this location on the game, assuming the attachment to the story, gameplay role and the visual attractivity.
Then our Art Director paints over the photos to get the final options. Then we fight and scream to each other "this one is better than this one, your version sucks!". Then the strongest survives.
