'Lode Runner Legacy' (ALL) v2.0 PC Update Adds Co-op, Other Features

by Rainier on May 11, 2018 @ 2:32 p.m. PDT

Lode Runner Legacy is the latest edition in the classic action/puzzle series, where you control “Runner” in order to recover stolen gold while avoiding enemies and minefields.

Lode Runner Legacy is the latest addition to the popular action puzzle game series, and combines all the best parts of the original 1983 game with a modern twist. In Lode Runner Legacy, players can control the Runner and regain stolen gold from the enemies in the Evil Empire's labyrinth. The Runner can blast floors, a technique players can use to strategically capture gold or trap enemies. Each puzzle is a unique challenge to a player's puzzle-solving and strategic techniques.

Players manipulate “Runner” to infiltrate the evil empire and recover stolen gold while avoiding enemies and minefields. The ingenious balance of puzzle and action gameplay from the original Lode Runner is alive in Lode Runner Legacy, along with many new features that offer a fresh experience to both new players and returning fans alike, including an updated Voxel visual style and powerful game editors.

Players can use the new Craft Mode to create original levels, characters, and items, which they can then share online with players around the world. Share your original levels and characters or play other players' levels in World Levels mode, and "Like" the best ones! This unique feature makes Lode Runner Legacy one of the only Nintendo Switch games to allow user-generated content sharing.

Lode Runner Legacy includes countless new features and game modes for players to explore. Players can regain stolen gold from the Evil Empire in Adventure Mode, or play enemy-free puzzle levels in Puzzle Mode. Additionally, Lode Runner Legacy comes equipped with 150 original Lode Runner levels in Classic Mode, as well as several hidden levels for players to uncover. All in all, there are 300 levels for players to beat as well as any new levels posted online, providing players with limitless hours of entertainment.

Are you ready to run?

Lode Runner Legacy has just launched Version 2.0! The update introduces a host of new features for players to enjoy, including a new play mode: local multiplayer co-op, which allows players the chance to team up with their friends to take down enemies.

In addition to the co-op play, the Level Editor has been updated to a new Craft Mode, which allows players to create their own character to use in the entirety of the game. Along with the new features, the update will improve UI functionality.

Players can also enjoy Extra Mode, which introduces new levels and new enemies. But watch out! These enemies have unique new movements that can have a variety of unexpected effects, like destroying blocks and self-destructing. These enemies will be available to utilize in Craft Mode.

Lode Runner Legacy is available to download on Steam for a new price: $11.99 USD/EU 11.99/JP ¥1200.

Lode Runner was created in 1983 by Doug Smith while a student at the University of Washington. The game was not only an award-winning bestseller, but also a significant milestone that influenced many in the video game industry. Alexey Pajitnov, creator of Tetris, said of the game, "My favorite for many, many years. Every level was a real puzzle with its own mechanics, its own dynamics, its own kind of solution. ... I can't imagine any other game with such inventive and unusual design."

Currently available on PC, Lode Runner Legacy will be available for Nintendo Switch in Spring 2018.
