'Highrisers' Picked Up By Assemble Entertainment, Scheduled For 2019

by Rainier on June 19, 2018 @ 4:20 a.m. PDT

Highrisers is a rogue-like survival RPG in which the player leads a team of four survivors with individual abilities through an apocalyptic, abandoned metropolis.

Exploration, research and crafting dominate the gameplay during the day. At night, the shady "Dreamer" - people infected and mutated by a mysterious disease - emerge from the dark street canyons, and the focus shifts to combat, siege and stealth.

In Highrisers players will fight for the survival of four characters in a post-apocalyptic metropolis. The cityscape is made up of giant high-rises, in which the group has to search for the resources necessary to ensure their survival. The further down they get in the giant buildings the more dangerous their scavenging becomes, as scary creatures are lurking in the shadows, waiting to prey on the surviving humans. Players will also have to keep an eye on the time of day and prepare for nightfall. Because that is when the horrors from down below will make their way into the upper floors.

The playable characters all have unique abilities, which can be developed and influenced through an extensive skill tree. In a fascinating, gloomy 16-bit pixel world, players will go on an end-of-days adventure, use their abilities to battle enemies, and gather resources to fashion them into useful items. This allows players to create and utilize a large variety of different weapons, medicines and tools.

The stronger the characters become the further they will go down in the high-rises and decide when it is time to move on to the next high-rise in their repaired helicopter and, by doing so, get closer – step by dangerous step – to escaping the post-apocalyptic metropolis.

After Solar Powered Games had already financed the retro-look survival RPG in 2016 through a successful kickstarter campaign, they went in search of a publishing partner in 2017 and found it at Assemble Entertainment.

Studio founder Markus Grupp of Solar Powered Games is convinced: "We are happy to have found in Assemble Entertainment an experienced publishing team that fully supports the product. This allows us to fully concentrate on the completion of Highrisers".

Assemble's founder and CEO Stefan Marcinek adds "We at Assemble are convinced that with Solar Powered Games we have gained a valuable partner and with Highrisers a great product for 2019, we are all very much looking forward to the forthcoming cooperation".

Key Features:

  • Pixel-styled environment with lovely details, reminiscent of the 16-bit era.
  • Explore highly interactive, procedurally generated levels, where nearly everything can be scavenged, commandeered, broken apart for building materials or used in some other way.
  • Control a team of four unique characters, each with its own skill tree. Puzzle on the perfect combination, as the skills of the four characters are often interconnected and will affect the same game feature.
  • Find your own timing. The upper levels are relatively safe and can easily be scavenged. But what will you do once they're picked clean? Will you venture further down, in search of useful loot? Or will you start the engines of your - by now hopefully repaired - helicopter and make the leap on the next building?
  • Watch out for the skies - the lighting system will completely change the mood of the deserted buildings over the course of a day, and dynamic weather effects will affect your play.
  • Complete unique soundtrack and voice over for each character.
  • An endless city - beautyful background art by pixel artist waneella.

Highrisers is scheduled to be released on Steam and other digital platforms in the 2nd quarter of 2019.
