'Divinity: Original Sin II' (ALL) Definitive Edition Gets Revamped Arena Mode With All-New Hot Seat Mode, Characters - Screens

by Rainier on Aug. 1, 2018 @ 8:19 a.m. PDT

Divinity: Original Sin II is a top-down, party-based action/RPG featuring cooperative multiplayer, turn-based combat, a strong focus on systematic gameplay and a well-grounded narrative.

Divinity: Original Sin II promises a darker and more expansive story than its predecessor. Set a thousand years after the original, Divinity: Original Sin 2 puts players in the role of a renegade user of forbidden magic. Our heroes will decide who will be the next god of Rivellon and what that god will do with its powers.

Divinity: Original Sin II features five playable races and a new tag system that lets players shape the background and motivations of their characters, from noble elven cannibals to swarthy dwarven outlaws. Each choice you make shapes the world, impacting how you complete quests, solve problems, and build relationships - go anywhere, take anything, and kill anyone, but be careful of the repercussions!

Divinity: Original Sin II breaks new ground in what players expect from role playing in their RPGs, featuring 4-player co-op through which players can compete or cooperate to reach their goals. The new relationship system provides more nuance to character interactions, as individuals will have their own objectives and priorities based on their background and race. Whether you choose to balance your party’s individual goals for the greater good or fight to make sure you always get your way, character relationships play a major role in determining how players advance through the world.

Tactical combat returns in Divinity: Original Sin II, with even more elemental interactions and powerful skills opening up new strategic considerations. Divinity: Original Sin 2 introduces a new spellcrafting system that lets players combine spells to create powerful and unexpected results. New combat skills give the less magically-inclined plenty of strategic options to influence the fight. Also, for the first time in a Divinity RPG, it is possible to challenge other players to PvP combat in demanding arena battles.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition enables players on console to finally experience the compelling story and turn-based combat that is at the heart of the Divinity franchise.

With Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition, players will be able to play through near endless possibilities by creating an original character or choosing a character featured in one of six different origin stories. The game world will react uniquely to each character, creating limitless possibilities to explore. You play in the world of Rivellon, a world abandoned by the gods. An oppressive order that wields a forbidden magic is rounding up mages from a fear that the mages’ source magic is tearing a rift between worlds. As you grow stronger through your quest, you will replace the gods who left Rivellon however, from your party of four, only one of you will have the chance to become the new Divine.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition also brings in new features for enhanced console play including; a party inventory system, a new journal system, a new tutorial, an updated PvP area and a new Story Mode difficulty setting. The largest update will be the game’s third chapter which has been completely rewritten so that players will be fully immersed in Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition’s rich and compelling story.

Larian Studios has completely revamped Arena Mode to bring new challenges to its players. The new Arena Mode features solo gameplay, online multiplayer PVP, and pass-the-controller Hot Seat mode, so you can play with your friends no matter where you are. Arena Mode also introduces 16 characters to the game, including some first-time playable characters such as Malady, Zandalor, and Radeka, each with their own unique set of skills and abilities.

Arena Mode contains two game modes, the Classic Deathmatch – where players are pitted against each other until only one remains – and Kill the King – where each team must protect a VIP from death. These modes can be played on 13 maps that have been optimized for tactical turn-based combat and includes five brand new arenas. Each map contains three different types chests that can be looted during the fight, such as a Destruction Coffer that contains destruction scrolls, a Control Coffer that contains control scrolls, or a Source Coffer that contains powerful spells.

The revamped Arena Mode also introduces Mutators, which can give skills or change parameters during Arena battles. For example, during Round 2, the Movement Mutator gives magical wings to all Heroes, allowing them to travel long distances, and during Round 7, the mutators initiate Sudden Death, reducing the health of all Heroes to the minimum levels. Mutators, along with a number of other parameters, can be customized by the host.

Xbox One players can get a taste of Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition and try the game now on Xbox Game Preview.

With Divinity: Original Sin II, Larian Studios aims to change the way we think about narrative in RPGs, creating a world in which your history and actions shape the story, and NPCs react differently to each character.

In addition to a powerful system of classless character development, your origins and deeds will shape NPCs’ behaviors and attitudes. Your race, birthplace, and greatest feats all play a role in your journey, but watch out, as a reputation as a Traitor or Swindler can be hard to shake.

An epic RPG with turn-based combat, Divinity: Original Sin II can be played as both a single-player and multiplayer game for up to four players with both cooperative and competitive questing.

Switch seamlessly between cooperative and competitive play throughout the entire story. Work together with your companions as one, persuade NPCs to thwart your opponents, and beware of backstabbing allies. Or, put your own goals above that of the party, and plan the moment you’ll betray them all. It’s up to you.

Currently available on PC, Divinity: Original Sin II is coming to the Xbox One and PS4 on August 31, 2018. .
