by Rainier on Aug. 6, 2018 @ 11:09 a.m. PDT

Set in the medieval fantasy world of Gielinor, RuneScape is a free browser MMO game where millions of players from around the globe become heroes with the freedom to explore and experience a realm full of magic, mystery and adventure.

Launched in 2001, RuneScape has been played by over 100 million players worldwide, making it the world’s largest Free-to-play Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG), as recognized by the Guinness Book of Records. The game is set in the medieval fantasy realm of Gielinor, an open-world landscape of kingdoms, regions and cities that are home to a myriad of monsters and magicks, and propel players into a multitude of quests and adventures.

Announced back in May, Jagex has shut down the RuneScape Classic servers after being in service for more than 17 years.

RuneScape Classic was the first version of RuneScape, released in 2001.

The RuneScape Classic servers will be taken offline at 8:00am BST on the 6th of August 2018. After such date, it will no longer be possible to log in to the Classic game.
