'Hellbound' Publishing Picked Up By NGD Studios, Closed Beta In 2019

by Rainier on Sept. 27, 2018 @ 3:49 p.m. PDT

Hellbound is a first-person shooter game in the vein of the classics like DOOM, Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, Blood and many others.

Inspired by shooters of the past, the Hellbound experience is focused on shooting, explosions, blood and speed. You have never played something so GROTESQUE!

Players take control of Hellgore, a big-ass motherf*cker who kills demons in Hell. That’s it. Is there a story behind all this? Well… yes, there’s a story, but it's not that important! The real protagonists are the fast-paced action and the gory violence.

When it’s time to destroy demons with bones, bullets, or bare hands, Hellgore is the man for the job. This big, stitched-up slab of muscle has one thing on his mind: crimson carnage. Well, he has his own fully fleshed-out backstory, but that’s not important right now. Just know that he’s no stranger to gunning down the demonic denizens of Hell.

"We’ve been the little guy ourselves, so our approach to publishing is a little bit different,” said NGD Studios CEO Martin Cao. “We see ourselves more like a co-developer, with some of the region’s most talented programmers, artists, designers and more available in house to help where we’re most needed and bring our partners the best results. And working with other gamemakers helps further our own self-publishing capabilities, as well.”

With over 16 years of experience developing and publishing games of its own, this marks NGD’s first time publishing another studio’s IP. The partnership will fuel development of Hellbound to its true potential – including a full-fledged single-player campaign – when it officially launches in 2019 on PC.

“Working with NGD will catapult development of Hellbound to the next level, allowing us to create the game we always envisioned,” said Tobias Rusjan, director at Saibot Studios. “Both our teams have really matured in the last few years, and thanks to the trust we share, I’m sure we’ll create a new classic that fans of ‘90s action games will love.”

Hellbound is a great fit for our publishing strategy: an ambitious game with lots of potential in a genre we love,” said NGD Studios co-founder and CCO Andrés Chilkowski. “Tobias got his first start in the industry right here with us at NGD before finding success with his own independent studio, so it feels like we’ve come full circle with this new step forward.”

Hellbound is available to pre-order now, which will grant access to Hellbound’s closed beta, expected in 2019. A free early access demo of Hellbound’s survival mode is available now on PC via Steam.

Features of Hellbound: Survival Mode

  • Annihilate 6 terrifying enemies with 5 guns of gruesome power
  • Experience blood splatter from a first or a third person point of view.
  • Gameplay based on speed, adrenaline and gore!
  • Original soundtrack: stunning metal beats to accompany the slaughter
  • Global Leaderboards to test your survival skills to the limit

Hellbound is a ‘90s FPS, 20 years later with old-school gameplay, and new-school quality. Remember when shooters were brutally hard, fast-paced, and violent? Imagine that rendered grotesquely in Unreal Engine 4. In the Survival Mode available today for free, Hellgore smashes and blasts monsters in a wave-based arena, reveling in chaos as heavy metal and industrial music chugs in the background. Every wave summons hordes of enemies to cleave through.

Five weapons round out Hellgore’s arsenal in Survival Mode, with more to come through frequent updates. The Headcrusher, Simple Shotgun, Triple Shotgun, Indolora (remember Ol’ Painless from Predator?), and Rocket Launcher are his implements of destruction as he takes on the soldiers of Hell. Power-ups like Hell Damage, Hell Speed, and Hell Skin increase your attack power, speed, and explosive resistance respectively.
