'The Division 2' (ALL) Reveals Dark Zones & Conflict Multiplayer Details - Screens & Trailer

Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is a shooter RPG with campaign, co-op, and PvP modes that offers more variety in missions and challenges, new progression systems with twists and surprises, and fresh innovations that offer new ways to play.

Seven months have passed since a deadly virus hit New York City and the rest of the world, crippling the population. When the virus hit, The Division, a unit of civilian sleeper agents, was activated as the last line of defense. Since then, Division agents have been fighting relentlessly to save what remains.
For The Division, the stakes are higher than ever. Washington, D.C. – the most heavily protected city on earth – is at risk, leaving the entire nation on the brink of collapse. If Washington, D.C., is lost, then the nation falls. As a Division agent who has been in the field for seven months, you and your team are the last hope to stop the fall of society after the pandemic collapse.

Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is an online open world, action shooter RPG experience set in a collapsing and fractured Washington, D.C. This rich new setting combines a wide variety of beautiful, iconic, and realistic environments where the player will experience the series' trademark for authenticity in world building, rich RPG systems, and fast-paced action like never before. Play solo or co-op with a team of up to four players to complete a wide range of activities, from the main campaign and adversarial PvP matches to the Dark Zone – where anything can happen.

In The Division there was only one large Dark Zone, eventhough it was split up into six areas of various difficulty, so to change things up The Division 2 will feature three different Dark Zones, each with its own distinct look and biome archetype.

The Dark Zones will be unlocked linearly as you play through the campaign to ensure that players felt like there’s an actual reason to visit the Dark Zones, so each will be introduced in a story mission and will be supported by a backstory that fits into the narrative.

In an effort to even the playing field for everyone, Ubisoft decided to normalize all gear stats to ensure success was more tied to player skill than to having the stronger weapons. This means that players who spend hundreds of hours in the game won’t automatically have a distinct advantage over newer players just because they have high-level loot.

However, the team at Red Storm recognizes that some players will want to test their gear builds without this normalization. With that in mind, when players reach the end game they’ll have the option to enter an Occupied Dark Zone, where there’s no normalization, friendly-fire is on, and there are no Rogue system statuses letting you know whether that squad across the street is friend or foe. Essentially, this is like a sort of “Hardcore Mode” for players who want more of a challenge.

The Dark Zones in The Division 2 are what the developers refer to as PvEvP, meaning you’ll spend the majority of your time taking down AI-controlled baddies but will occasionally come face-to-face with some human controlled enemies. The Division 2 expands the ways that players can interact with the Dark Zone, adding to the risk while also increasing the reward.

One of the biggest sources of loot in the Dark Zone are supply drops, which offer weapons, armor, supplies, and more. In a neat twist, if you’re the first to a supply drop, you’ll have the option to take all the loot for yourself or share it with others. While you might be tempted to snag it all, there’s a drawback: you’ll go Rogue and automatically be tagged for nearby players to hunt you down. To secure your loot you will need to wait out the timer without getting killed or manage to make your way to an extraction zone.

If you do go down the Rogue road and run into another player or squad it becomes a game of kill or be killed. If you get the drop on an opposing player while Rogue, you become a Disavowed agent and will be listed as such any time anyone sees you. They’ll get a reward for killing you, but if you manage to kill them first, you’ll become what’s known as Manhunt Rogue. This means that every player in the Dark Zone can see you on their map and you can be sure that they’ll be coming for you to take your loot and receive the bounty on your head.

The development team listed the online experience for players as one of the biggest areas for improvement, and as such they have reworked the client/server tech for better connection and less lag, as well as adding more servers to decrease the qeue time. With regards to PvP play, previously you could talk smack to the opposing team/players, but now VOIP will automatically disable when you engage opponents. To further combat foul play, new anti-cheat tech will be incorporated.

The Division 2 will feature a new clan system with a clan chat, direct clan messaging, a bulletin board, and a dedicated progression tree which will unlock special clan perks and collaborative goals.

While the Dark Zone was previously considered the PvP area, The Division 2 will now also include two PvP only game modes, Skirmish (a Team Deathmatch mode where the goal is to make the other team run out of respawns) and Domination (a tug of war where you have to capture and hold specific areas). At launch there will be three dedicated maps for these two multiplayer modes, each based on Dark Zone locations. To make it all fair the match making will be skill-based and gear will be normalized so nobody will have an unfair advantage.
