'The Detail' Celebrates 5th Anniversary, Ep. 1 Free On Steam This Week

by Rainier on Nov. 6, 2019 @ 8:31 a.m. PST

Set in a modern American city, The Detail is a classic 2D point-and-click adventure with a noir theme. You play as a veteran detective who's investigating a brutal murder and a reformed criminal who's trying to protect his family. Make tough moral choices and deal with the consequences.

The Detail is inspired by TV crime drama series like The Wire, has an art style that borrows heavily from graphic novels like The Watchmen, and focuses on deep, story-driven gameplay similar to Telltale Games' The Walking Dead, where your choices carry consequences that alter the course of the narrative.

The Detail's story centers around a hard-nosed detective named Reggie Moore who has grown disillusioned with the bureaucratic system of justice, and a former police informant named Joseph Miller who is being dragged back into the life in order to clear the debt that looms over his past. The player will take control of each character in turn over the course of the game, using the personal characteristics of each to solve a series of crimes sweeping across a dark and embittered city.

Rival Games released The Detail in episodic format on iOS, PC, Mac and Linux. Each episode is a self-contained story lasting two hours on average, but with plot elements which tie into the overarching plot of the season.

5 years have passed since our first game: The Detail Episode 1 was released. It's a neo-noir indie game produced with a small budget, but nevertheless it was an important stepping-stone for us. It showcased our skills to produce enthralling story driven games and enabled us to eventually move on to bigger projects.

After releasing two more episodes of The Detail we had the great opportunity to step our game up by turning Robert Kirkman’s renowned “Thief of Thieves” comics into a game that was released on PC, Xbox and now on Nov. 12 also on Nintendo Switch. Additionally, this year dawned our first mobile only title: Alien: Blackout, based on the Alien franchise.

However, The Detail will always have a special place in Rival Games' heart, being the first game we ever released. We want to celebrate the past 5 years by giving out The Detail: Episode 1 free of charge on Steam between 7-11 Nov.
