Prepare to go dark, Modern Warfare is back!

The stakes have never been higher as players take on the role of lethal Tier One operators in a heart-racing saga that will affect the global balance of power.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will make its return in a powerful experience reimagined from the ground-up, engulfing players in a modern-day conflict, where split-second decisions could affect the global balance of power.

In the gripping and dramatic single-player story campaign, players will immerse themselves in a visceral narrative that shines a light on the changing nature of modern war. Alongside a cast of international special forces and freedom fighters, fans take the role of tier one operators in a saga that will affect the global balance of power. Additionally, picking up where the Campaign ends is the cooperative Special Ops mode where players can team up in strike-teams of four. Special Ops advances the overarching Modern Warfare lore with multiple ways to play co-op, including Operations, the largest and most involved experience with multi-phased objectives, and the more curated Classic Special Ops, to test your performance with weapons, munitions and other tools.

And the story doesn’t end there.

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, players will be thrust into an immersive narrative spanning the entire game. Players can experience the ultimate online playground with classic multiplayer or squad-up and play cooperatively in a collection of elite operations, accessible to all skill levels.

Infinity Ward and Activision have rolled out a free Call of Duty: Modern Warfare content update today – available for everyone at the same time for all platforms – adding new content and maps together!

The content drop includes:

• New maps: Krovnik Farmland to Ground War and Shoot House to Multiplayer
• New mode: Hardpoint
• New playlist: Shoot House 24/7! This includes a mixture of Team Deathmatch, Domination, Kill Confirmed, and Headquarters
• Bug fixes

Today’s release of free maps and a new mode is just the start. With the release of Modern Warfare, fans can play together through crossplay and cross progression, and look forward to a ton of new content and the start of live seasons coming free to all players on all platforms.

Two free maps are available now; a new traditional Multiplayer map, Shoot House, and a large Ground War map, Krovnik Farmland.

Shoot House

Visit the deserts of Urzikstan and enter a military training Shoot House facility; a tight, three-lane map packed with close-quarter combat potential. Medium-sized (perfect for 6v6 combat and a variety of game modes), expect tight corners that support a run-and-gun style of gameplay, along with a number of sight lines for medium-ranged engagements.

Venture into the central intersection with sights from all four sides of the map where the most intense gunfights are likely to take place (over the B point in Domination). It’s also well worth investigating the hallway overpass in the middle of the map, enabling players to peer down over the central action, while dealing with unique and specific threats from across this open-air map.

Additional military components and equipment act as location points, including a decommissioned helicopter mounted to a wall close to the center of the facility, as well as various target range assets scattered across the map. Happy hunting!

Krovnik Farmland (Ground War)

Once idyillic, the rural farm land of Verdansk has been pock-marked with evidence of military conflict, and the scars are visible across this Ground War map designed for battles on a massive scale. Compared to the previous maps of this size and scale, Krovnik Farmland provides a distinctly different atmosphere. Fight epic and frenetic Domination matches across a vast and undulating rural landscape, featuring farmhouses, windmills, silos, and other agricultural scenery.

Peer out into the far periphery of the map, and you may be able to pinpoint a Gulag….

Additional Game Mode Content

Hardpoint

“Capture and hold the zone to earn points for your team.”

Race to secure and defend a specific “hardpoint” on the map, and then repel this zone from enemy incursions. Several times during the match, the hardpoint rotates to a different position around the map, so it’s worth learning the likely location of each hardpoint so you can react accordingly.

When your team is within the hardpoint, your teams’ score increases, though if none of your team have made it to the hardpoint, there are no points gained. A point is gained every second you or a team member (or a group of teammates) is present within the hardpoint. When your team reaches 250 points, you can claim victory.

Infinity Ward will be releasing a mix of free content, along with fun community events and celebrations regularly, and this free content is just the beginning.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare features a new engine delivering an immersive and photo-realistic experience across the entire game. The new technology utilizes the latest advancements in visual engineering, including a physically-based material system allowing for state-of-the-art photogrammetry, a new hybrid tile based streaming system, new PBR decal rendering system, world volumetric lighting, 4K HDR, DirectX Raytracing (PC) and more as well as a new GPU geometry pipeline. Spectral rendering delivers thermal heat radiation and infrared identification for both thermal and night-vision in-game imaging. The technical investment made provides a cutting-edge animation system and blend shape system, while the new suite of audio tools allows for full Dolby ATMOS support, on supported platforms, along with the latest in audio simulation effects.

Modern Warfare multiplayer delivers a thrilling and game-changing online experience with best-in-class down the barrel gameplay, along with an all-new level of strategic and tactical play. Players can jump into new play spaces that redefine Call of Duty multiplayer, from quick-action, close-quarters 2 vs. 2 experiences in Gunfight, traditional 6 vs. 6 multiplayer gameplay, modes that support 10 vs. 10 and 20 vs. 20 firefights, along with high-player count maps and combat, such as the all-new Ground War, an epic large-scale mode supporting more than 100-players. And, that’s just the beginning for Modern Warfare fans.

With a complete weapon overhaul and the most choices in Call of Duty history, players will be able to outfit their multiplayer operators for every combat encounter, with unprecedented customization and modifiability in the new Gunsmith system. Modern Warfare features cutting-edge visuals, authentic sound design, with realistic recoil and weapon ballistics throughout the game. Activision also confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have no season pass, and that it will feature cross play between Xbox One, PS4 and PC platforms.
