Expect a new era of anime fighting games, featuring anime-amazing visuals, cutting-edge sound, and an all-new game system designed to appeal to fighting game veterans and novices alike.
Designed to appeal to fighting game novices and veterans alike, it marries the characters, artwork, and story from one of Japan’s most fervently loved RPGs with a classic beat ‘em up design courtesy of one of the world’s greatest fighting game developers. With characters from the original Granblue Fantasy series, such as Gran, Katalina, and Lancelot, the game will be a must-have for existing fans, while providing a new way for western gamers to experience the series for the first time.
Each character will boast a full suite of special moves based on their abilities from the original game and while Versus will maintain the beautiful visual design of the original series, it will also introduce a host of new features that will usher in a new era for fighting games.
In Granblue Fantasy: Versus, power, skill, and spirit collide in a quest to find the true champion of the ring. Players can take on AI opponents or fight against human opponents in local or online two-player matches. Five characters will be available in the playable demo, starting with Gran, the protagonist of Granblue Fantasy, who travels the skies with his winged companion Vyrn and a mysterious girl, Lyria, who saved his life. Other characters include Katalina, an ex-imperial knight sworn to protect those she holds dear; Charlotta, the virtuous captain of the Lumiel Order of Holy Knights; Lancelot, a dual-wielding master swordsman; Ferry, a ghost with a whip and spectral pets; and Percival, the ‘Lord of Flames’ who wields a blazing longsword.
Details revealed at “Granblue Fantasy Fes 2019” which was held December 13 – 15 included specifics on the final boss and an additional character for the RPG mode, exclusive DLC characters, and new rewards unlockable in the Granblue Fantasy mobile game.
Chaos Bringer was revealed as the RPG mode final boss of Granblue Fantasy: Versus. This mysterious “hooded figure” was featured in the original Granblue Fantasy’s popular “What Makes the Sky Blue” series of events. Upon the game’s release, he will appear only as a boss, however an update planned for late February will add him as a playable character that can be unlocked by completing the RPG mode. Chaos Bringer will also be unlockable by purchasing the season 1 DLC, without completing the RPG mode.
One of the Astrals who invaded the Sky Realm thousands of years ago, long before the War broke out. Chaos Bringer was sealed away in Pandemonium until the fallen angel Belial released him from his forced slumber. Obsessed with becoming the supreme being, he wields a substance capable of slaying immortals—chaos matter. And at his beck and call is Avatar, the manifestation of destruction. Sky Realm, Astral Realm, Crimson Horizon—his hands will mold these realms into one so that he may stand above all in creation.
Narmaya, Soriz, and Djeeta have also been announced as additional playable characters in the season 1 DLC. In addition to these three characters and Chaos Bringer, a fifth character will be revealed during the Granblue Fantasy 6th birthday live broadcast in March 2020.
Narmaya: Fighting style: With Narmaya, players can switch between two different stances—Dawnfly and Freeflutter— each of which allow her to use different skills, for a highly technical fighting style.
Soriz: Fighting style: An excellent swarmer. His skills will be enhanced by activating his super skybound art. (Super skybound art is a super move that can be activated when the charge gauge is full, and HP is 30% or lower.)
Djeeta: Fighting style: Like Gran, Djeeta offers a simple, well-rounded play style.
