Industry veterans from the worlds of gaming, K-Pop and comics announced the official introduction of Epizodic Entertainment, a new development and production company dedicated to the creation of multi-genre entertainment projects that blend different distribution elements and digital platforms. Epizodic’s executive team also today unveiled a production still from its upcoming first original mobile video game property.
With offices in Los Angeles, CA and Seoul, Korea, Epizodic’s executive suite consists of diverse industry leaders with an impressive track record working with global brands such as Marvel, Lego, Big Hit Entertainment, DC Comics, Electronic Arts and the NBA. Founder Gilbert Kim will lead Epizodic Entertainment as its CEO. Kim whose prior mobile game studio was acquired by Electronic Arts, plans to strategically establish Epizodic as a premiere source for the creation of entertainment properties that will span traditionally fragmented platforms and audiences.
“Convergence in entertainment is happening all over the world now,” says Gilbert. “We’ve built an amazing team across the digital content space to address this.”
In addition to Kim, other Epizodic Entertainment founders include Brian Selzer, a founder of augmented reality company Ogmento, and Tony Park, investor behind world renowned K-Pop group BTS.
Epizodic Entertainment’s first announced original property is an innovative multi-genre gaming title with elements of music videos, Korean television dramas and talent competition shows. Writing duties on the project will be overseen by David Wohl, whose previous credits include Marvel, Image and DC Comics, and Joelle Sellner, writer on the DC Superhero Girls Web and LEGO Friends Animated Series. Epizodic Entertainment is also developing the launch of a reality TV show version of the game to coincide with the game’s release in mid-2020. The two projects will be tied closely together, creating a powerful new entertainment and marketing platform for original music and story content.
“There has never been a game or show like this, where original songs are inherently interwoven in both mediums," says Gilbert. “There will be real life stories and struggles that are conveyed through song and we want to bring the power of music into our game. "
Chief Producer Brian Selzer adds, "We will be scouting fresh, undiscovered singer/songwriting talent, and providing them with a unique and powerful platform to get their songs and voices heard. The competition show will allow for original songs to fit the story lines, central to our strong character development and narrative.”
