'World of Warships: Legends' (ALL) Celebrates The Holidays With Content Update, In-Game Events

by Rainier on Dec. 19, 2019 @ 8:08 a.m. PST

World of Warships: Legends is a free-to-play naval action MMO based on sea battles of the 20th century that complete the "World of" war trilogy.

Keeping with the best traditions of the series, World of Warships will offer a straightforward interface, easy-to-use controls, and a common economic system that will allow players to distribute resources between the three games for the ultimate progress in each of them.

The large assortment of available warships will give various tactical opportunities, as all the machines have a unique combination of firepower, speed, armor, and endurance. Various naval maps with changing weather conditions will enrich the gameplay, and the realistic graphics will transport players into the epic battles that changed the course of human history.

You will move through tiers of ships trying out various legendary vehicles in the process and training your commanders to best accommodate available sets of weaponry and hull characteristics. Choose from two types of shells, launch torpedoes and outsmart your opponents. If you like blunt force, several ships will cater to your interests as well, be it destroyers that can stealthily approach the enemies or battleships with high risk/high reward salvos, which take a long time to reload, but wreak havoc if targeted well. Cruisers are the jacks of all trades that will be appreciated by players looking for a middle ground.

When it comes to nations, World of Warships currently has 10 represented in the game. Major ones are: Japan, USA, USSR, Germany, Britain and France. There are also selected vehicles available for the Pan-Asian, Polish, Italian and Commonwealth navies. The number of ships in the game is always growing and you should be able to find something suitable to your playstyle pretty easily.

World of Warships: Legends is celebrating the holidays with massive events!

Players can participate in the Last Battleship campaign to earn the Jean Bart, build and command the mighty Yamato, and experience better battles through a second wave of player-driven changes. With lots of holiday presents, events, giveaways, and sales, there's plenty to do in World of Warships: Legends this holiday season.

The Last Battleship campaign will start on Dec. 23 and will continue until the next update. Players can earn the last battleship ever completed—Jean Bart. The historical Jean Bart was completed and entered service in 1955, almost 10 years after HMS Vanguard. Though originally a 1936 design, Jean Bart was redesigned with experience from World War II and her sister ship Richelieu. In-game, she is all about speed. Equipped with an Engine Boost and a Main Battery Reload Booster, Jean Bart can flank and unleash devastation on a whim. Players who complete the Last Battleship campaign with Admiralty Backing will receive the Jean Bart as the final reward. On the way through the Last Battleship campaign, players will earn rewards, equipment, and the special Santa Containers which have a chance to drop a premium ship.

At last, the legendary Yamato will appear in World of Warships: Legends. Any player that completes the Giant of the Sea missions can try out the Yamato starting on December 30th. Yamato is the first Legendary Tier ship in the game and is the most powerful ship in the game, bar none. She is nearly unstoppable thanks to her immense 460 mm guns and best-in-class survivability. In history, the Yamato was the largest and most powerful battleship ever built, and she retains that spot in World of Warships: Legends. Players won’t want to miss the chance to helm the Yamato. She will only be available during the Yamato event and will disappear afterwards for further tuning. Think of the event as an extended test drive!

There is also a special currency that can be obtained from both events—Sakura Coins. If players acquire enough of these Sakura coins by completing missions, opening Super Santa Containers, and taking the Yamato into battle they will have the opportunity to buy two premium destroyers, the Tier VI Asashio and the Tier III G-101. In order to get Asashio, players will need to open a few Super Santa Containers, which are available through the campaign and the store. There are also massive New Year’s sales to help players kick off 2020 with a bang.

In addition, there has been several balance changes to improve high-tier battles. Most Tier VII cruisers received improved survivability, and several Tier VI and VII ships were changed based on their performance in battle. High-tier map spawn locations were also adjusted to allow for more tactical flexibility in battle, thanks to player feedback. World of Warships: Legends has seen good progress throughout 2019. The game now has 5 main nations with 13 lines of ships to progress through, which is almost double the amount of ships that were available at launch. The roster of legendary commanders keeps growing as well, with over 35 represented.

World of Warships: Legends is set to bring even more nations, ships, and commanders to the game in 2020!

There are 7 tiers of ships in total and you begin at tier I with late XIX to early XX century cruisers. Vehicle tiers can be separated in two distinct timelines - tiers I-IV belong to the "dreadnought era", while everything from tier V and above is grouping the WWII ships.  After playing several battles with them and getting acquainted with controls and basic mechanics, you'll move over to tier II cruisers, that are faster, better armed, more sturdy and have a choice of armament (high-explosive or armor-piercing shells). From there you'll be able to branch out into the destroyers which are all about stealth and high risk-high reward gameplay. Tier III will allow you to try out the battleships which bring huge salvos and armor, yet lack in maneuverability.

Maps are square with sizes range from 24x24 km to 18X18 km. Smaller maps are usually reserved for lower tiers, bigger - for higher. The maps are quite different both in size and island distribution. You will see all kinds of landscapes: from the icebergs of Arctic to the tropics of southeast Asia.

World of Warships: Legends is available on PS4 and Xbox One.
