'Afterlight' Announced, Kickstarter Planned For April - Screens

by Rainier on Feb. 14, 2019 @ 5:22 p.m. PST

Set in the 22nd century, Afterlight features an atmospheric adventure with action and puzzles on Titan, a distant moon on Saturn.

Afterlight puts the player in the shoes of Xin, an astronaut who, after an accident, must survive both the physical and psychological sequels. To do so, she will seek the assistance of her drone and companion C.O.G., who will help her solve all kind of complex situations. Xin will be forced to solve the mission in solitary discovering in the process disturbing events that will question their perception of reality.

Afterlight is designed to convey emotions through unique situations and challenges, to tell a story of overcoming psychological disorders. One of our strengths is the relationship of our protagonist with her partner: a drone with AI specialized in medical and psychological evaluation.

The visual aesthetics are inspired by the architectural study developed by Lebbeus Woods. The majority of his explorations deal with the design of systems in crisis: the order of the existing being confronted by the order of the new. His designs are politically charged and provocative visions of a possible reality; provisional, local, and charged with the investment of their creators.

With references such as Inside or Journey, or even Tarkovski's films, the adventure sets out an introspective story in search of self-improvement through trust.

"We are aiming for a precise and dynamic gameplay", Malaga Studio explains. "We want to put the player in front of unique puzzles and environments of extraterrestrial beauty, discovering how to survive after the failure of a mission where the main character is the only survivor".

Currently, Silent Road Games is part of Badland Publishing acceleration program in Malaga, located in the Polo de Contenidos Digitales, a unique ecosystem for the digital media and entertainment industry growth.

The developers commented that "thanks to Badland, we have professionalized Afterlight in terms of business development, marketing and human resource management. Being part of this initiative has been key to getting to where we are today. Due to the early level of development we are at, it' s not easy to evaluate our project. So if the Kickstarter is successful, Badland will be willing to be our publisher.

Afterlight will start its funding through Kickstarter on next April, with the studio targetting a release by the third quarter of 2020. The platform of choice will be PC, but Silent Road won't close the doors to console versions.
