Armed with a pair of swords, Ayumi is charged with toppling the evil overlord, and must evolve her fighting skills and magic abilities in order to proceed.
With Ayumi’s time-rewind ability, players can bring an almost limitless amount of strategies to the battlefield. After a time rewind, Ayumi’s shadow in time will repeat the last actions of the player, like fighting monsters or luring them away. At the same time, the player can then charge into battle with Ayumi again, using the additional firepower - or detraction - to defeat even the biggest hordes of enemies or the most powerful bosses. You can repeat this tactic again and again in the same battle to bring up to five shadows of Ayumi from different timelines simultaneously.
Blades of Time’s Dragonland setting is rife with traps, which have to be thwarted or avoided, while the various locations throw up a series of themed inhabitants. The game progresses from the island’s snowy locales, through to balmy jungles, decaying cities, and sky islands. Each brings a fresh look and differing inhabitants into play, pushing Ayumi’s new-found skills to their limits, while a second player can step in via the game’s all-action Co-Op mode, which is a bonus next to the single player story mode.
Now, old and new fans alike will be able to enjoy Blades of Time anytime and anywhere thanks to the Nintendo Switch’s portable versatility.
For those ready to cross swords with real competitors, the game also offers a freshly revamped & challenging multiplayer mode, uniquely combining the game’s third-person Hack ‘n’ Slash combat with strategic MOBA elements. Players can choose their avatar among several heroines and heroes, all featuring different skills and special abilities. Each player then takes charge of an army of NPC monsters, trying to be the first to destroy the enemy’s stronghold.
With over 40 possible attacking combos, and levels that will constantly surprise and delight, Blades of Time is so much more than a 3D combat title. It forces the user to think as they fight and to plot their actions in order to make the most of the time-travelling elements.
Blades of Time is now heading for a launch on Nintendo Switch on May 14th.
