'Dead Cells' (ALL) Sells 2 Million Copies, Free Rise of the Giant DLC On Switch/PS4

by Rainier on May 24, 2019 @ 12:49 a.m. PDT

Dead Cells is a roguelike, Castlevania-inspired action-platformer, allowing you to explore a sprawling, ever-changing castle… assuming you're able to fight your way past its keepers.

To beat the game you’ll have to master 2D souls-like combat with the ever present threat of permadeath looming. No checkpoints. Kill, die, learn, repeat.

Roguelike, Rogue-lite, roguelike-like, rogueschmike! The world needs more of these and we'd like to present for your consideration, the RogueVANIA. This means an interconnected world that you unlock progressively through exploration and battling bosses, with death replacing backtracking. Each death will unlock more of the world and you’ll begin to understand the scale of the choices in front of you. Sick of the stinking sewers? Why not go over the ramparts? It’s your skill, playstyle and of course the loot you find that will determine your choice your path.

But don’t think this will be a walk in the park. Pattern based monsters, and demanding boss fights will force you to fight cautiously and build your strength. Every weapon has its own unique feel and rolling and dodging will become second nature as you learn to manage the mobs of monsters that will overwhelm the unprepared. Tough, but fair.

Tired of the violence and death? Explore a bit, take a stroll, enjoy the view from the ramparts, find a secret room. Thomas and Gwen, our graphic artists, never miss an opportunity to impress with their pixelart and shape a world that you’ll want to explore. You might even learn a little more about the lore of the place, who knows?

Motion Twin announced that its ‘Rise of the Giant’ DLC arrived on Nintendo Switch, PS4 alongside a new milestone that Dead Cells has now surpassed the 2 million sales milestone. The Rise of the Giant Update will hit Xbox One soon.

Dead Cells is also making its way to iOS this  summer with Android planned at a alter time.

Rise of the Giant Update DLC

Players who have beaten the game into submission on at least one occasion will gain access to the Cavern, an entirely new environment filled with entirely new ways to die. Abominable new traps, perilous lava pools await and they are filled with violent new enemies waiting to kill you - including a new boss at the end of the Cavern.

Fans will also be introduced to a shiny new skinning system, which gives players more than 50 new character outfits to enjoy. New loot will drop via the game’s new Premium Shop that you can sign up for with your favorite credit card classic blueprints from existing enemies in the higher difficulty modes (and bosses, of course.)

Overall there are 10 new enemy types added to the world of Dead Cells, many of which can be found in the higher difficulty modes of the game. Three new skills have been included in the game which consist of a flying pet and a single use scroll that will reveal the current level map and 10 new weapons have been introduced, including the Giant Killer, the Boi Axe and the Thunder Shield. The old Hunter Grenade door in the Prisoners’ Quarters has been replaced by a new Specialist shop where you can buy the Hunter’s Grenade, skins or a lovely new Map.

For the most advanced players, Rise of the Giant holds a new hidden level. An entirely new ending to your story will be revealed to those who can beat the crap out of the new boss waiting for you at the end….
