'Moons of Madness' (ALL) Adds Dreamloop Games To Ramp Up Console Development

by Rainier on May 29, 2019 @ 9:02 a.m. PDT

Moons of Madness is a first-person, story-driven cosmic horror game where the scientific exploration of Mars meets the supernatural dread of Lovecraft.

A mysterious signal has been recorded coming from the red planet.

The message confounded Orochi scientists. Their analysts broke it down and determined it was of intelligent origin. Orochi management immediately concluded that the discovery was too sensitive for public knowledge and moved to keep it hidden. In secret, the corporation began construction of Invictus, a state-of-the-art Mars research outpost designed to identify the true nature of the message.

In Moons of Madness you play Shane Newehart, a technician stationed at the Invictus, a secret research base built by the Orochi group. Your low-security clearance means you are completely unaware of the existence of a mysterious, intelligent signal that has been detected as coming from the red planet.

Your job is simply to keep the lights on until the transport ship Cyrano arrives bringing with it a new team to take over your duties.

Soon you discover strange and unusual setbacks. Crucial systems are malfunctioning, the greenhouse is filled with a strange mist and the rest of your team has yet to return from their EVA mission.

Things are starting to fall apart.

You begin seeing and hearing things that aren’t there. Visions, hallucinations – or is that even what it is? Is this real… or are you slowly descending into madness?

After picking up the publishing rights, Funcom announced that Dreamloop Games will join Rock Pocket Games as a development partner for the upcoming cosmic horror Moons of Madness.

Dreamloop Games has previously tackled multiplatform development projects - both for owned IP projects, and as a premiere Nordic work-for-hire studio. While Dreamloop has developed a strong reputation as a reliable work-for-hire studio by assisting or publishing games such as Stardust Galaxy Warriors, Bus Simulator 18, Ostwind and Race Arcade across all major gaming consoles, this project strikes a more personal chord. Dreamloop Games founder and CEO Joni Lappalainen has long been a fan of the work of the Funcom team, specifically with the much loved Conan The Barbarian franchise.

“This is a really great opportunity for Dreamloop to create a strong partnership with Funcom, but it’s also great for us on a personal level,” stated Lappalainen, “Working with Funcom is a great personal milestone for all of us here at Dreamloop. They developed a project we loved – Conan Exiles. To work with a strong publisher on an interesting project is great, but to work with a team you admire is absolutely incredible.”

The added development expertise that Dreamloop brings to the table will assist Rock Pocket Games and Funcom to propel the ambitious Lovecraftian Science Fiction title toward its pre-Halloween release. Moons of Madness will be available for digital download on the PlayStation Network, Xbox One Store and Steam.

With your only hope of rescue hundreds of thousands of miles away, you will be forced to explore the real-world fears of isolation and paranoia, enhanced with supernatural elements and cosmic horror. Terrifying visions and monstrous apparitions will make you question what is real and what is not as the very fabric of reality threatens to tear at the seams.

Navigate a functioning Mars base in a game that uses non-fiction elements to immerse players in a believable setting. Overcome obstacles using computers, electrical systems, rovers, solar panels and more, then go beyond the outpost and explore the darker side of Mars.

The game aims to provide an intense, narrative-driven, psychological horror experience. Players will explore a realistic interpretation of the red planet as they uncover the mystery surrounding Shane’s past and learn the secrets behind the sinister moons of madness.

Moons of Madness draws upon the rich lore and mythology of Funcom’s Secret World Legends. Both games exist in the same thematic universe, but playing one is not a prerequisite to enjoy the other.

Key Features:

  • The Martian meets Lovecraft: Combining hard science, based on meticulous analysis of NASA and Space X research, with Lovecraftian horror.
  • An innovative feature called “Zone Outs” that simulates Lovecraftian madness. Players are exposed to hallucinations and visions they play through as part of the game. They have to understand what the visions are expressing as they foreshadow certain events mapping out the character’s history.
  • Interactive Dialogue System
  • Exploring mental illness through various game modes without antagonizing the medical condition itself.

Moons of Madness is set to deliver cutting-edge mind distorted horror fiction for PS4, Xbox One and PC in October 2019
