'Sparklite' (ALL) Details Gameplay, Tech Blueprints and More - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 19, 2019 @ 4:27 p.m. PDT

Sparklite is a roguelite brawler-adventure set in a whimsical world where players invent guns and gadgets to solve puzzles and defeat enemies.

Battle foes in top-down action using an arsenal of gadgets, guns, and gear. Explore dangerous corners of the world, take down titans of the mining industry, and save the Sparklite!

Players assume the role of Ada, a genius engineer, lost in a strange new land thrown into turmoil by gremlins. Ada must help save the world by stopping the invaders from extracting the last of its life-blood, the magical Sparklite.

But nature is fighting back too! Violent earthquakes, known as  disruptions, periodically shake up the terrain, causing new arrangements and layouts within the world. After each disruption come new quests, minigames, and challenges for Ada to overcome as she builds up her strength to defeat the mysterious “Baron”.

Everything in the world of Geodia is tied together by Sparklite... it's the life force of the planet, and the inhabitants have learned how to channel it for their own gain. The blue, glowing ore can be harnessed providing a low-level, rechargeable power source, or it can be consumed for a huge surge of power with grave consequences. Geodia’s self-titled "Baron" has devised a plot to mine the world’s Sparklite core to meet his own ends. Mining Sparklite in large quantities, the Baron repurposes the ore to fuel his powerful war machines, but the pollution from the consumed Sparklite is corrupting the world. Animals have turned into violent monsters, and the environment is rotting away.

The stricken land of Geodia has a natural defense in its Sparklite core. Periodically, the core causes a Disruption which rearranges the world, setting back the Baron’s efforts. Our heroine, Ada, must stop the Baron before he can obtain the core and gain the power to create a new world in which he has ultimate power. A plucky mechanic, Ada will need to use her cunning and skills to defeat the Baron’s henchmen across five distinct zones. Ada will have to work with Geodia’s weird and wonderful inhabitants if she’s to face the Baron and put paid to his deadly plans before it’s too late.

The world of Geodia is packed full of fun excitement, it’s also strife with potential dangers around each and every corner… Luckily Sparkmaster Rizzle is on hand inside his wondrous Workshop to make sure you are kitted out to take on the challenges ahead in Sparklite this Fall! And who is Ada, the engineer and hero of Sparklite?

In a new developer video, the Red Blue Games team shares the inspiration behind her and answer a few other questions from the community.

For those hopin6g to learn more, we’ve got a deep dive into the weapons and gadgets that you’ll use when exploring.

Across Sparklite’s five diverse procedurally generated biomes, an abundance of mystery and challenges lie in wait and it’s dangerous to explore unprepared. With Sparkmaster Rizzle’s trusty Workshop of Wonders open in town, our hero Ada is always only a stone’s throw away from upgrading her arsenal for the enemies and puzzles that lie ahead.

From either harnessing the power of the Boom Balloon which allows Ada to quickly dispatch enemies with remote control precision, to the quick firing bursts of energy from the Spark Slinger, there’s always a weapon on hand to deal with any given situation. With Sparklite upping the ante with several challenging boss battles such as the Lumbering Titan, Timbert and his treacherous gremlins, Ada’s Rocket Boots provide her with short, concentrated bursts of speed to both avoid foes and jump over large gaps to catch that hard to reach chest of loot! Or take it up another level with the powerful Spark Blitzer which harnesses Sparklite to discharge an intense spike of energy with devastating precision!

As well as Ada’s array of high-powered weaponry, she also has a wealth of gadgets at her disposal. From her companion, Wingnut’s enhancing Flare Bang, to Ada’s own handy Multi-Tool Wrench, Sparklite has enough tools in its box for any budding explorer come release day! These are but a handful of the weapons and tools Ada will utilize when taking on the perilous foes Professor Corwin touched on in detail in last month’s Bestiary of Brutal Baddies.

Can’t wait until release to play Sparklite and heading to PAX West in Seattle? Then be sure to drop by the Merge Games booth (#6916). Chat to the devs, play some games, and help Ada save the day! Or maybe you’d like to catch them on the “Monsters of Indie” Superstar Dev Panel on Sunday September 1st at 1:30 pm in the Sandworm Theatre in the Sheraton hotel, Seattle.

Our hero, Ada, must travel to each zone of the world to shut down its Digsite, lowering the Baron’s defenses so that she can stop him before it’s too late...

A delightful mix of roguelite and adventure, Sparklite lovingly leans into the games that inspired it such as The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Rogue Legacy while still creating an identity all its own.
