'Herogrinder: Tactical Combat Arenas' - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Sept. 18, 2019 @ 12:52 a.m. PDT

Herogrinder: Tactical Combat Arenas is a free-2-play turn-based tactical PvP and co-op combat game.

Herogrinder uniquely combines deep character progression and customization, simultaneous turns, destructible and re-arrangeable environments, stealth, drones, hacking, and area effects. Every turn has limitless outcomes, depending on the use of squad tactics, skills, equipment, the environment, and readied actions to get ahead of your opponents' game.

It also has monsters...

The game takes place in a retro cyberpunk setting where players manage and fight with custom grown, programmable organisms called bioroids.

In Herogrinder, players enter tactical combat arenas solo or with a team of 4 bioroid fighters to play versus and co-op matches, or tournaments. Bioroids are fully customizable in design, abilities, and equipment so each one is totally unique in style and tactical characteristics. As contestants win battles, they gain credits and experience to level up and to access and restock equipment. With each new level achieved, players can upgrade their bioroids with conditioning programs (feats) and items, along with clearance levels for experimental technologies. There are also over 20 preset character advancement progressions for those who want to level up quickly.

Available game modes

  • 1v1, 1v1v1: Command a single bioroid, or a squad of four bioroids against one or two opponents.
  • 2v2 Co-op: Join a teammate with your squad of four bioroids in a co-op battle against another pair of players.
  • 10-Player Deathmatch: Enter the arenas with a single bioroid to match your skills against 9 other players, each commanding a single bioroid.
  • 4v4 Co-op: Join three teammates with a single bioroid to play against another team of four players commanding a single bioroid each.

Using simultaneous turns, there are no wait times between actions. Players can assign all their actions at the same time and the round is resolved simultaneously as well, in a highlights video that is unique to the player’s view. Offensive and defensive ready actions with multiple presets can be used to counter enemy moves and get ahead of their game.

Arenas are designed for maximum excitement and are packed with a wide range of tactical options like destroyable environments, movable covers, deadly area effects, killer drones, teleporters, lockable doors, camera systems, switches, and light sources that can be taken over by any team.

Herogrinder will also feature a single player story mode where players can uncover the hidden agenda of the corporations involved. This revelation of the truth will unveil the significance of the end-game content to the players and their role in the terrifying cosmic plot all along.

Players can organize themselves into clans that will be completely manageable by the community. This will allow for clan competitions and item sharing within the clan. Clans can also win unique clan items while competing against each other.

The Herogrinder Arena Editor will allow players to create their own maps for the game and publish them for the community to use and evaluate. The most popular user-created maps will become part of the official arenas.

Players will be able to bet on the outcome of matches and also win in-game credits through the rakes from the bets on their matches

The game will not feature loot boxes.

Indie developer Modern Ltd. has released a Bioroid Customizer App on Steam (by clicking the "Download PC Demo" button on the sidebar) where players can design their unique characters, and enter in their contest to win an exact 3D-printed model of their creation.

Herogrinder: Tactical Combat Arenas is in development for PC (Steam) and coming soon.
