'Discrepant' Comes to Steam Early Access Next Week - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Sept. 4, 2019 @ 8:34 a.m. PDT

Discrepant is a dark and twisted psychological sci-fi adventure inspired by cool movies such as Dark City, Donnie Darko and Thirteenth Floor.

Discrepant is a psychological adventure game set in a dystopic sci-fi world that is slowly unwinding. It's dark, deadly, and unsettling. It explores the meaning of existence and purpose, challenges reality and emotional connection through a complex plot, and comes with a twist around every corner. Taking place in a strange town called New Haven, you take control protagonist Sebastian, who has been thrust into a world where things are anything but ordinary! Weaving your way through the disconcerting situations and uncomfortable environments, you seek answers. The anxious and confused wireless voice of Sue, claiming to be your wife and seemingly just as lost, is your only link to sanity, your only guide to unraveling why the world is falling apart. Can you trust her guidance?

Discrepant challenges you to find the safety of the transition room, and should you fail, you will need to try again. The game offers a thrilling adventure experience in a dystopic Sci-Fi world with unexpected surprises and events!

"Discrepant will release in initially with the first chapter in early access mode, and then the remaining chapters over a period of months. All chapters are development complete and the game is ready for end to end play through, but we want to absolutely we get the game play, mood and quality for chapter 1 right! Then we will know how to adjust the remaining chapters. Getting the mix of elements in the game is a tricky endeavor, but once the recipe works, the rest will follow quickly."

"We don't want to release too much and get it wrong. The game has great twists and we want that experience to reward early adopters without giving away the story before it is perfect. Getting valuable feedback about the plot and game play difficulty will help inspire and direct the game. We want this to game to surprise, frustrate, challenge and lure you into it's plot and characters, and captivate you. It is a high calling, and having early feedback is critical to allow us to make the game as good as we want it to be.”

“Early Access will give the player the full Chapter 1, which is made up of 3 connected game levels, and several hours of game play. Every quarter we plan to release the next chapter of the game into Early Access which will allow us to develop the each chapter concept one at time, whilst focusing on polishing and refining the previous chapter. The final game is planned to be 4 Chapters, with at least 12 expansive game play areas. Those who buy Early Access will get the entire game at a discount.”

“Chapter 1 is plot complete, and playable from start to finish with each level already quite refined, and only missing cosmetic enhancements, extra sound effects and level clutter and debris. Some features will be more finalized than others, and we will be taking in player feedback throughout. Discrepant development timeline has been extended due to a lot of extra content we can't bear to leave out.... and being an inexperience developer.. well.. we'd rather take our time than rush and get it wrong. In a few years the legacy will remain, and we want that to be a good feeling of doing it right.”

“We currently do not expect Early Access to last longer than 6 months. We expect to release a chapter every few months.”

Discrepant will be available through Steam Early Access on Sept. 9, 2019.
