'Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories' (ALL) Gets Release Date, Limited Edition - Trailer

by Rainier on Jan. 7, 2020 @ 9:52 a.m. PST

Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories places you in the precarious position of a young adult trying to navigate a city struck by calamity.

Disaster Report 4 has been out in Japan since the end of 2018. As with the original Disaster Report, it’s a survival game, set in a fictional Japanese city following the effects of a devastating earthquake. The player character, who was in town for a job interview, has to find a way through the wreckage of the city, deal with other survivors, manage their stress levels and cleanliness, and figure out how to escape alive.

Thrust into a tragedy that touches countless lives, you must now make the decisions that will determine who lives and who dies in the chaos stemming from a natural disaster. What will you do in the aftermath of calamity?

When a massive earthquake strikes the city you’re visiting, you find yourself at the epicenter of a chaotic and catastrophic crisis. It’s up to you to rise above the calamity, gather your thoughts and your fellow survivors, and outlast the disaster. Aftershocks, fires, collapsing buildings and debris, and unstable ground are but a few of the threats you’ll face in these nightmarish circumstances. What will you do when every passing second and every snap decision could spell the difference between life and death?

The Limited Edition includes:

  • Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories for PS4 or Nintendo Switch.
  • Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories Official Soundtrack
  • Novelty “Emergency” Backpack
  • Identification Tag
  • Novelty “First Aid” Collector’s Box

Disaster Report 4 was one of several games that was under production at Irem in Japan at the time of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, and was subsequently cancelled in the company’s pivot to becoming a slot machine and pachinko developer. Many of its employees left to found a new company, Granzella, and continue working in the video game market. One of Granzella’s first releases, the Japan-only City Shrouded in Shadows on the PS4, was intended as a spiritual sequel to Disaster Report, before the company secured the rights to the actual series.

DR4 marks a return for the series after 10 years of inactivity. The Disaster Report series (Zettai Zetsumei Toshi, “The Desperate City,” in Japan, and SOS: The Final Escape in Europe) began in 2002 on the PS2, produced by Irem and localized for the North American market by Agetec. The 2006 PS2 follow-up, Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 2: Itetsuita Kiokutachi (“Frozen Memories”), was localized under the title Raw Danger, and unlike the other games in the series, tasks the player with escaping from torrential flooding rather than an earthquake. A third game followed on the PSP, but was never released outside Japan.

Key Features:

  • Your World in Chaos - In a city on the brink of collapsing, you’ll need to make split-second decisions that will impact your safety as well as that of others.
  • Everybody's Got a Story - Meet your fellow survivors in a Japanese-inspired city devastated by a powerful earthquake, and see how the human spirit bends...and sometimes breaks.
  • Danger at Every Corner - Navigate a multitude of crises—from collapsing buildings to raging fires—in a city aplomb with peril.

Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories is coming to PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam) on April 7, 2020 for $54.99.
