'Bookbound Brigade' (ALL) Gets Release Date - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Jan. 9, 2020 @ 7:54 a.m. PST

Bookbound Brigade is about beating the hell out of historical and literary characters you studied in school by leading a dream team of real and fictional heroes through a 2D side-scrolling platform-adventure.

It will take the likes of Dracula, King Arthur, Queen Victoria, Nikola Tesla, Cassandra, Dorothy Gale, Sun Wukong the Monkey King and Robin Hood to assemble and avenge a world plunged into chaos following the theft of the ‘Book of Books’, a volume encompassing every single work of fiction and non-fiction ever written.

Scripted by British comedy writer Dean Wilkinson (Little Big Planet), Bookbound Brigade is about beating the hell out of historical and literary characters you studied in school by leading a dream team of real and fictional heroes through a 2D side-scrolling platform-adventure.

Get ready for a unique take on the Metroidvania-style platform-adventure game, with 2D side-scrolling graphics: explore, fight, backtrack, grow your skills and tackle challenging quests and puzzles across 5 varied worlds – from the Tower of Babel to Victorian London, passing by the lost city of R’lyeh, home to ancient god Cthulhu.

There is no single hero in Bookbound Brigade: you play as a party of 8 unique characters, each with their own traits and skills affecting behaviour, so work together in Formation! To successfully navigate the environments, you will need to choose the right Brigade formation: standard, line, column or wheel. Meet over 50 distinctively hand-drawn NPCs, drawing from generations of famous historical and literary characters.

“Bookbound Brigade breathes new life into many renowned characters and historical figures we read about,” said Sue Yim, Overseas Marketing Manager, Intragames. “We’re thrilled Digital Tales’ creative spin on the metroidvania genre will allow fiction lovers, history buffs, and platforming fans a chance to undertake this new adventure when the game launches for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Steam on Jan. 30.”

Bookbound Brigade will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC via Steam on Jan. 30, 2020 for $19.99 / €19.99 / £17.99 / $30.00 AUD.

The game features support for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese language options.

Key Features:

  • Explore, fight, backtrack, grow your skills and tackle challenging quests and puzzles, as in any Metroidvania game worthy of its name, but get ready for a twist...
  • There is no single hero in Bookbound Brigade: you play as a party of unique characters, each with their own traits and skills, who move in formation and fight as one.
  • All the characters, both playing and non-playing, are drawn from the pages of history and literature, so expect to meet some familiar and less familiar faces!
  • The distinctive hand-drawn visuals, inspired by book illustration from all time, stray far from the pixel art dominating the Metroidvania genre.

Bookbound Brigade will be released digitally for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC on 30 January 2020 at $19.99 USD / €19.99 EU / £17.99 UK / $30.00 AUD.
